Make or break: This season could decide what the future holds for Crystal Palace’s talismanic attacker

Why this is a very important season for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha

Wilfried Zaha has been one of Crystal Palace’s talismans since his arrival at the club for the second time, in 2015. He has scored 22 goals in 114 appearances since then and has been a threat to the opposition defenders every time he has stepped onto the pitch.

The 25-year-old began this brand new Premier League season with a goal against Fulham. He will be keen to continue performing well and remain in the eye-sight of some of the big boys in England and Europe.

According to Mirror, Palace had to clarify their thoughts of keeping the player as he was targeted by some of the big clubs like Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Liverpool this summer.

Chelsea too were in the race later on. Express once stated that the Blues and their rivals Spurs were favourites to sign the 25-year-old. However, as per updates in Metro on the deadline day, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish insisted it would ridiculous if any big club came bidding for the player.

Why is it an important season

So as it stands, the Eagles have negotiated the situation and have kept their best player from the grabs of the Premier League giants. However, it won’t be too long before one of those big boys come calling with big money and take Zaha away. For that to happen, the winger/forward has to continue delivering at Selhurst Park to keep getting positive attention.

Of course, a player like him who possesses lofty potential would be eager to join a club with big ambitions. So for him, scoring goals and winning games for the current club is very vital, as this is where the importance of a budding match-winner arises.

The 25-year-old just needs to add consistency to his game and remain injury-free.

Hence, for Zaha, this is a massive season where he can lend himself for a big move by producing a few match-turning moments.

Verdict

The player has an abundance of talent in his locker. He would have found it attractive to have been linked with the big clubs. The move hasn’t materialised this summer but if Zaha intends to get it done next summer, he has to do the talking by scoring goals and creating chances.
