Main to lead the line – Strongest 3-5-2 Motherwell XI to take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup final

Share

Motherwell come into the Scottish Cup final, absolutely intent on causing a massive upset, and would use that to spur them on. They are there to win the cup and they firmly believe that they can rise to Celtic’s level and beat them over the course of 90 minutes.

Celtic come into this on the back of a strange loss on the final day of the season, going down to 10-man Aberdeen. They will be looking to bounce back and claim back-to-back domestic trebles.

Probable Motherwell XI

Manager: Steve Robinson

Formation: 3-5-2

Trevor Carson (GK)

The experienced goalkeeper joined Motherwell last summer and has gone on to have an excellent season for the Steelmen – will be hoping for a clean sheet in this game.

Cedric Kipre (CB)

The Ivorian has been in good form for Motherwell this year and has formed a vital part of the back-three that Robinson likes to play.

Cedric Kipre

Charles Dunne (CB)

The 25-year-old is another of the central defenders that Robinson has used as a back-three for most of this season. At 6ft 2in, he usually towers above the opposition strikers and wins everything in the air.

Tom Aldred (CB)

Since coming in on loan from Bury in January, Aldred has settled into the back-three excellently and really complements Dunne well.

Chris Cadden (RWB)

The 21-year-old has come through the Motherwell academy and has been fantastic this season. He plays on the right of the midfield, usually fulfilling both defensive and attacking duties.

Chris Cadden

Elliott Frear (LWB)

Several players have operated in this position for Motherwell this season. Frear has looked good when he has played here and performs his defensive and offensive duties admirably.

Allan Campbell (CM)

The 19-year-old has played a lot for Motherwell this season and is one of the success stories of their academy. Solid into a tackle and also gets forward well.

Carl McHugh (CM)

The captain of the team and he leads by example in the middle of the park, putting himself about and making some good challenges. Will be hoping to lead his side to victory.

Carl McHugh

Gael Bigirimana (CM)

An exciting prospect at both Coventry and Newcastle, Bigirimana seems to have found a home for himself at Motherwell. He is an excellent passer of the ball and can start moves off well for his team.

Curtis Main (ST)

Main has been an excellent signing for Motherwell and would really want help his side win this cup against Celtic. He will be hoping to get on the scoresheet for his team.

Ryan Bowman (ST)

Bowman has 10 goals in total for Motherwell this season and will be hoping to add one or two more in this final.
