Who Made The Cut For The Team Of The Week?

English Premier League returned this week with even more excitement and an array of world class players. Guardiola, Mourinho, and Conte have joined the likes of Wenger, Ranieri, Pochettino and Klopp in the race for the title. While all the new managers along with Klopp tasted victory in the first week, Arsenal and Leicester City didn’t enjoy the same luck as they lost their opening round fixture. Tottenham came back from behind to draw the match against Everton. Zlatan Ibrahimovic capped off a beautiful debut with a long range striker, while Kante was solid as ever in that Chelsea midfield.

Goalkeeper: Maarten Stekelenburg

After Ross Barkley’s early strike, it was the excellent performance of Stekelenburg between the sticks that kept Everton in the game. He made  a couple of very good stops but will need to continue in the same form if he has to secure his place in the starting XI.

Defenders: Eric Bailly, George Friend, Ahmed Elmohamady and Gareth McAuley

Eric Bailly continued his excellent form into the first match of the season. He was instrumental in keeping Bournemouth at bay. similarly, McAuley was the leader in the West Brom defense that kept a clean sheet at Crystal Palace. His was superb keeping the likes of Connor Wickham quiet for the majority of the match. Elmohamady is a very vital player for Hull City due to his versatility. He started on right-wing against Leicester and totally bossed the game. His experience was crucial in dealing with the pace of the Foxes. Friend stood strongly against Shaqiri and even provided an outlet going forward. His forward play was very impressive.

Midfielders: Coutinho, Fernandinho, Ander Herrera, Mane and Nathon Redmond

Coutinho was by far the player of the week, with a return of two goals and a host of magical moments. He will start in the number 10 role, flanked by Mane on one side and Redmond on the other. Mane capped off a brilliant with a fine piece of individual brilliance. His pace was a constant threat to the Arsenal defense line. While Redmond got a goal that his performance deserved. He was a constant thorn in Hornet’s defense.

Striker: Diego Costa

Where was this Costa all of the last season? He was full of energy and pace. His direct running caused West Ham defenders problems all night. He capped off a brilliant evening with a well-taken goal, that proved to be the winning goal also.
