London XI For 2013/14 Season – Features 3 Arsenal, 4 Chelsea Stars And A Surprise Duo From Crystal Palace

As the Premier League season is over, all eyes have shifted towards the World Cup as the fans are preparing themselves to witness the world’s greatest sporting extravaganza.

While such an implication would mean that more concentration is bestowed upon the World Cup, let us take a look at the recently concluded Premier League and do a bit of analysis. What we shall do is pick a XI of the best players from the London-based clubs in the Premier League for this season.

Wojciech Szczesny

Szczesny has been phenomenal this season and that was reflected yesterday when he won the Golden Glove Award. Although, he shared it with Petr Cech, it shows how much he has grown and matured. Renowned for his composure and agility, Szczesny has often saved Arsenal from poor performances. And that surely places him ahead of Petr Cech.

Branislav Ivanovic

Capable of playing both in the center and right side of defense, Branislav Ivanovic has had an excrement season under new boss, Jose Mourinho. Predominantly playing at right, Ivanovic has been very good going forward and is a reliable presence at the back. With a strong physical presence and a powerful shot, Ivanovic has been contributing to the goals tally at regular intervals

Gary Cahill

Arguably the best defender this season in the premier league, I should say Cahill has been nothing short of excellent. Playing under a defensively demanding Mourinho, Cahill has risen up to the task and put in solid performances throughout the season. With Terry by his side, it is no wonder Chelsea have conceded the least number of goals.

.Laurent Koscielny

The Frenchman, who has been picked in his nation’s World Cup, has been very good this season. He has been an integral part of Arsenal’s excellent showing in the league and FA Cup and will be a very important player for France. His physical presence and no-nonsense defending gives him the go alongside Gary Cahill in this team.

César Azpilicueta

What a season he has had after making the left-back spot his own thanks to the injuries and loss in form of Ashley Cole. Constantly on the look out to play crosses and assist in attacks, Azpilicueta has been very good going forward. Equipped with pace, he has been equally good at the back and had a solid season. And all of this playing out of position at left-back.

Mile Jedinak

Crystal Palace’s captain Mike Jedinak has been a revelation this season. Playing from the center of the park, Jedinak has been the heartbeat of the Crystal Palace. With an excellent manager to back him up, Jedinak has been running the deeds for Crystal Palace as they get better by the day. Possessing a high engine and stamina, Jedinak is full of legs and never stops giving his 100%.

Aaron Ramsey

He may have been injured for a relatively long period of time but that doesn’t take away a bit from his performances this season. Coming off an excellent pre-season, his early season conjectures were enough to determine his quality as he was scoring goals for fun. With Arsene Wenger placing full faith, Ramsay has excelled and sure will be the future of Arsenal’s midfield.

Jason Puncheon

While Jedinak is the vital cog in the Crystal Palace side, Puncheon is the man who makes the difference. Signed from Southampton, Jason Puncheon has been the unsung hero of Crystal Palace. Having scored the winners in four matches, he has been an invaluable player for Tony Pulis. His trademark runs down the right wing and taking a shot after cutting in have been well established and worked wonders.

Christian Eriksen

While Puncheon and Hazard have been rampaging from the wings, this diminutive Dane has made the attacking midfield spot his own at the White Hart Lane. Purchased for a high fee, Eriksen is perhaps the only player who justified his price tag. Putting in inspired performances week in week out, Spurs sure would have been lost without him.

The PFA young player of the year, Eden hazard has been the pick of Chelsea players this season. Reminiscent of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo, hazard has been excellent throughout the season. While Chelsea have ended the season without a trophy, hazard’s incredible performances are something to take away from the season.

Emmanuel Adebayor

After being sidelined for over a year, Adebayor got a new lease of life this season. With Soldado becoming increasingly poor, Adebayor was given a look in by Tim Sherwood and he has repaid the faith. Playing off renewed confidence, he has been excellent this season scoring some memorable goals and making up for Soldado’s poor season.

Honorable mentions: Petr Cech, John Terry, Joel Ward, Nemanja Matic, Olivier Giroud,
