The 22-year-old had been loaned from Villa to the League 2 side in January for the rest of the season.

McKirdy- a promising talent

Having progressed through the youth ranks of Villa,  McKirdy finally broke into the first-team in 2015, before getting loaned to various clubs the following seasons.

The attacking midfielder got the limelight during his stint with Stevenage, where he went on to score 17 goals in less than 30 games.

However, he struggled to get his place back in the Lions’ first-team after that.

Brilliant game against Cambridge

The English prospect finally got his breakthrough yesterday, despite appearing as a substitute.

As soon as he entered,  McKirdy scored his first goal in eight matches.

And following the game, the Exiles’ manager was full of praise for McKirdy.

I was buzzing for him,” Flynn said.

“First touch as well. He’s a very good footballer and I wanted to get him on.

He also added that Mckirdy was completely deserving of the goal for all his hard work.

McKirdy is set to make his return to Villa Park this Summer, with hopes of retaining his place in the first-team.

Meanwhile, Dean Smith’s men continued their excellent run of form in the Championship, with another win against Bristol City.
