Liverpool vs Manchester United – Highlights + Player Ratings

One of the most high profile matches of the entire Premier League has been played today and Liverpool have displayed why they should be considered  seriously this season. They registered their third win of this season from as many matches, courtesy a Daniel Stuuridge goal within the first three minutes of the match and help them to reach the top of the table. Lets take a look at the player ratings of both the teams from today’s match.

Liverpool

Simon Mignolet- Three clean sheets back to back and looks rock solid in front of the goal. Has displayed some excellent reflexes.

Ratings- 8/10

Glen Jonhnson- Had a pretty decent game the England International and made some good running in the flanks. Suffered an injury late into the match.

Ratings- 7/10

Daniel Agger- The vice captain of the team led the backline from the front. Showed tremendous determination and never let the United players get past him.

Ratings- 8/10

Martin Skrtel- The comeback man produced a man of the match performance. Had an excellent game and he was one of the main reasons Liverpool could emerge victorious.

Ratings- 9/10

Steven Gerrard- The skipper showed his fighting spirit and led the team. Did a lot of defensive work in the second half to help the Reds get the better of their fiercest rivals.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Lucas- His work rate is his peak feature and he made full use of his ebergy on the field. After a couple average performances, it looks like Lucas is finally settling down, although he still has to put in a lot more in the coming weeks.

Coutinho- Was brilliant in patches and mediocre at other times. His form must now worry Rodgers a bit now. Liverpool’s hope rests a lot on his shoulders and he must act accordingly.

Ratings- 6.5/10

Jordan Henderson- Did his job well enough and did not commit too many mistake. But when it came to attacking third, he simply posed no threat.

Ratings- 6.5/10

Iago Aspas- Was not good enough for such a huge match. He definitely needs more time to get adjusted to such a demanding league.

Ratings- 5/10

Daniel Sturridge- His excellent run of form continues with him scoring yet another goal to make his team victorious. Was astute with his game himself, though lacked support at some point of the game.

Substitutes-

Andre Wisdom- Replaced Jonson at the right back and made some neat tackles.

Ratings- 8/10

Raheem Sterling- did not get enough opportunity to display his potential making just one late run in this match.

Ratings- 6/10

Luis Alberto- Played for a few minutes after replacing Coutinho.

Ratings- NA

Manchester United

David De Gea- Did not have to save too many shots, but was good in his limited opportunity and couldn’t have done much in saving Sturridge’s goal

Ratings- 7/10

Patrice Evra- One of the top performers of the United side. Was equally good in the defence and the attack in the second half. The French-man still has got it in him?

Ratings- 8.5/10

Phil Jones- Was injured midway through the game and was substituted soon enough. Had a decent run in before that.

Ratings- 7/10

Rio Ferdinand- Was initially disturbed by Sturridge and Coutinho, but later managed  to hold on to his ground with conviction.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Nemanja Vidic- Had an average game, did not much to do after the initial phase of the game.

Ratings- 7/10

Ryan Giggs- Getting him in the first team displays their lack of midfielders at the moment. It was often difficult for him to keep the pace.

Ratings- 6/10

Micheal Carrick- Was instrumental in the midfield and set up the attack for the team.

Ratings- 8/10

Ashley Young- Did not do much in his entire time and was replaced by Nani after the first half.

Ratings- 5.5/10

Tom Cleverly- Best game in a United shirt for a long time. Buoyed by Moyes’s faith, the England midfielder was neat and tidy with the ball and also showed more ambition with his distribution

Ratings- 7/10

Danny Welbeck- Welbeck delivered his usual work-rate but was not too comfortable in front of the goal and was thus replaced.

Ratings- 7.5/10

Robin Van Persie- Was subdued by the Liverpool defenders and got distracted by of his feud with Skrtel. A night to forget for the flying Dutchman.

Ratings- 6.5/10

Antonio Valencia- Took the position of the injured Phil Jones. Nothing exceptional but did his job.

Ratings- 7/10

Chicharito- Came on too late to make a sizeable of impact.
