Liverpool vs Manchester City: Star-studded Combined XI featuring 9 Cityzens and 2 Reds

A match of epic proportions awaits us all on Sunday as Liverpool welcome champions-elect Manchester City to Anfield. The Sky Blues have firmly established themselves at the top of the points table and are unbeaten so far and it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club become the first ones to beat City, after losing to them 5-0 earlier this season. The Reds will miss Philippe Coutinho but Mohamed Salah is expected to be fit for this colossal game.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at a combined lineup featuring stars from both the teams.

Liverpool And Manchester City Combined Lineup

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Ederson Moraes (GK)

Ederson has been rock-solid in goal for Manchester City and has maintained more clean sheets than Mignolet, thus earning him a spot in this lineup.

Kyle Walker (RB)

Walker has undoubtedly been one of the best in the Premier League this term, thus making it to this lineup ahead of Joe Gomez. Slowly but steadily, he has been putting his best foot forward for City and has been impressively consistent.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

Be it defending or attacking, Otamendi can do it all. He has consistently been one of Guardiola’s best men at the back and that is more than enough for him to secure a place in this lineup.

Nicolas Otamendi

Joel Matip (CB)

Matip has been sturdy and reliable for a good majority of this season. In fact, he has been a solitary figure of consistency for Liverpool at the back and that has helped him seal a spot in this lineup.

Fabian Delph (LB)

Delph has been in spectacular form for City and has managed to play quite admirably as a left-back. He was rested for City’s match against Bristol City, which should see him return to the team against Liverpool.

Fernandinho (CDM)

Once more, there is no doubt that this is Fernandinho’s best season in the Premier League so far. His game boasts of a sense of maturity that has truly made the difference for the Sky Blues in the middle of the park.

David Silva (CM)

No other player has even come close to being as influential as Silva in terms of his ability on the ball and technical skills. Hence, he finds himself in this lineup ahead of his Liverpool counterparts.

Raheem Sterling (LW)

Sterling has been a true attacking genius this term. He has played an instrumental role in shaping City’s attack in such a lethal manner and that has helped him secure this spot ahead of Mane and Sane. Although he plays on the right-wing for City, it’d be unfair to not include him in this XI, and hence am slotting him on the left.

Mohamed Salah

Kevin De Bruyne (CAM)

Arguably, De Bruyne has been the most influential player in the entire Premier League this season. His chance creation has been spectacular and it would be criminal to not include him in this lineup.

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Salah’s pace, power and aggression on the right-hand side have truly revamped the Liverpool attack and the club will need him to be in top form as they host City on Sunday.

Sergio Aguero (CF)

Aguero has achieved the status of being a modern-day City legend and for all right reasons. Also, with Gabriel Jesus out of action, this will be a good chance for Aguero to increase his tally. He can score goals on any given day and that has propelled him into this lineup ahead of Roberto Firmino.
