Vardy’s Brace And A Drinkwater Worldie – Player Ratings For Leicester Vs Liverpool

A brace from Jamie Vardy and a long range goal for Danny Drinkwater gave Leicester City all three points at the King Power stadium against a Liverpool side lacking in motivation. Philippe Coutinho got the only goal for the visitors as they lost 3-1, thereby denting their hopes of a top 4 finish.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet – 7/10

Made a few fine saves to keep the scoring down but was let down by his defence as they allowed the opposition to come at them. Could have done better in stopping Vardy’s first goal as he exposed his first post too much.

Nathanial Clyne – 6/10

Was urgent and energetic only in the second half of the game but it was too late for his side, struggled to overlap and burst forward, but was decent when it came to defending.

Joel Matip – 5/10

Was strong in his aerial battles but was caught off the pace of Vardy and that made the difference as he wasn’t able to handle the Leicester attacks on the counter. His distribution was poor and gave the ball away when Leicester were under pressure.

Lucas Leiva – 5/10

The Brazilian struggled for the whole game as he looked flat footed almost every time Vardy was on the charge. Was at fault for the first goal as he did not try to close down Vardy and kept running towards the post. Had problems in keeping the defence ticking.

James Milner – 5/10

Lacked any sort of creativity on the left-hand side. Had many opportunities to cross but barely hit any of his team-mates. Wasn’t his usual self in terms of imposing a threat despite working hard.

Emre Can – 4/10

Set up the goal for Coutinho but the German was having a torrid time, giving the ball away cheaply, failed to protect his back four as he wasn’t up to the pace of the game and was at fault for Vardy’s second goal as he allowed the striker to get a yard ahead of him.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 5/10

Was extremely average in midfield, made a few easy passes and lacked the drive going forward. Made some good tackles and interventions to break down Leicester attacks and link the play up for his side. Overall, not what Liverpool fans want to see of the Dutchman.

Adam Lallana – 6/10

Was energetic and linked up well with the other attackers in the team, but was also sloppy occasionally as he lacked urgency when he needed to be more direct. Could have done better in dealing with Fuchs in the build up to Leicester’s third goal. Came off for Moreno with 25 minutes left to play.

Philippe Coutinho – 7/10

Took a while to finally get going with his free flowing game and scored a wonderful goal but all too late. The midfielder couldn’t get a grip on the game and cut through clear openings, despite being the visiting teams’ best player.

Roberto Firmino – 5/10

Was barely visible in attack as he was shunned out by Leicester. His poor movement caused a breakdown in Liverpool’s attack. Had very few touches of the ball compared to his team-mates and was completely ineffective in the game.

Sadio Mane – 6/10

An outing to forget for the Senegalese forward as he was far away from his fluent best. Struggled during the time he was on the pitch and was not able to produce any clear cut chances.

Substitutes-

Divock Origi – 5/10

Did not impress after coming on for Mane. He was just another sole figure at the top without any sense of the game.

Alberto Moreno – 6/10

Didn’t have enough time but ran and put in the effort for his side, which they lacked dearly throughout the game.

Bed Woodburn – 5/10

Introduced late in the game, couldn’t have any real impact despite a few good moves.

Liverpool couldn't stop this golazo from Drinkwater.
What a screamer that was from Danny Drinkwater!

Leicester City Player Ratings

Kasper Schmeichel – 7/10

Made a string of fine saves to keep Liverpool at bay but had no chance with Coutinho’s shot that was tucked in the bottom corner. Provided a sense of assurance and confidence from the back.

Danny Simpson – 7/10

Was smart and strong in defense not allowing Milner and Coutinho any real opportunities to get past him. Didn’t attack as much as he would’ve liked but did an excellent job in keeping out the Liverpool threats.

Wes Morgan – 7/10

Made a few important interventions for the home team and looked solid at the back, did not allow Firmino a sniff at goal. However, was poor with his ball distribution.

Robert Huth – 7/10

The big German was amazing at the back as he defended with smartness, strength, and safety. Was a threat during set-plays and long throw in’s into the box.

Christian Fuchs – 7.5/10

Full of energy on the left flank covering ground, was resolute against Mane as he needed to be subbed off. Crossed in a lovely ball with his right foot to set up Vardy’s header.

Onyinye Ndidi – 9/10

Absolutely brilliant in midfield with his work rate, tackles, interceptions, and passing as he choked out Liverpool’s creative players. Looked full of energy and combative. A perfect game for the youngster at both ends of the field.

Marc Albrighton – 7/10

Worked tirelessly on the flanks and seemed to move the ball well, was commanding in possession and along with his creativeness. He looked a real threat throughout the game.

Danny Drinkwater – 8/10

Another classy performance from the midfield man as he worked hard and scored a beauty of a goal. However, he needed to be a bit more responsible with the ball at his feet.

Shinji Okazaki – 6/10

Was lively and energetic all over but didn’t see much of the ball and his attacking was only limited as he spent more time in pressing the Liverpool players in possession.

Riyad Mahrez – 6/10

Looked out of confidence for most parts of the game but flashed his skills time and time again. Though he struggled to make any impact in the attacking third of the pitch.

Jamie Vardy – 9/10

Ensured Leicester got the three points by scoring two predatory goals. Could have had much more and was a threat throughout.

Substitutes-

Ben Chilwell – 6/10

Brought on late just to run down the clock.

Daniel Amartey – 6/10

Settled in well to the pace of the game and helped in dealing with the Liverpool attacks.

Demarai Gray – 6/10

Another late sub that couldn’t do much to impact the game, but looked lively for the few minutes he was on.
