Liverpool vs Leicester City – Team News, Lineups, Preview, Match Facts And Prediction

Brendan Rodgers

It couldn’t have been better than this for Liverpool! Two massive victories in two successive games. First Burnley, now Swansea. Liverpool had already set out on their winning ways post Boxing Day, and now one more triumph to Rodgers’ kitty. A thumping 4-1 victory against Swansea City would mean that the Reds can kick off the New Year in high spirits.

The Reds have had a rather misfiring year in the Premier League on the whole, however, with the team picking up some momentum off late now, the boss would be confronted with a greater challenge of going on with their recent form. All that said, Rodgers would be looking forward to brush aside a relegation threatened Leicester at the onset of the New Year. As a boosted up Liverpool comes down to play at Anfield, Leicester too would be eyeing to write off their ill-fated run so far and start things off with a bang in the opening game of the New Year.

Liverpool vs Leicester City Team News:

With Bradley Jones remaining out of the team owing to injury concerns, Simon Mignolet gets the numero uno call for managing the bars. Meanwhile, right back Glenn Johnson continues to visit the treatment room courtesy of his groin injury and is unlikely to feature in the first eleven. The English striker Daniel Sturridge, too, may remain out of action until mid-January. Injuries also keep Joe Allen and Jon Flanagan off action until late 2015. On the other hand, Martin Skrtel serves a one match ban and remains on the fritz, adding to Rodgers’ distress. That being said the German Emre Can, might be deployed into the latter’s position.

The only positive news on the injury front is the return of Dejan Lovren, who remained out of action for a while owing to his groin injury might just make his way back to the starting eleven against the Foxes. Nonetheless, with Mamadou Sakho topping Rodger’s list at the moment, it would be interesting to see who would actually feature. With Rodgers’ seeming unwillingness to deploy recognized strikers of the likes of Rickie Lambert, Fabio Borini or Mario Balotelli; Adam Lallana, along with the Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho, is likely to complete the starting XI.

On the contrary, Nigel Pearson’s Leicester City had seen zero success in their preceding games with only the success over Hull City last week. Nevertheless, they still continue to struggle at the rock bottom of the League table. Pearson has by far modified and altered his teams on most occasions, but the boss would be keen on deploying a similar lineup which earned his team that much needed triumph. Sadly, Paul Konchesky serves a ban. Meanwhile, Richie de Laet could be a smart pick at the left. Goalkeeper Schmeichel, who suffered metatarsal fracture is yet to return to full fitness and hence, is likely to remain sidelined from the playing eleven. Leonardo Ulloa goes up against a fitness a test and Jamie Vardy might just return after his ban and run in the Leicester jersey.

As, an in form Liverpool side take the field at Anfield, it will be really interesting to see, how the Foxes come down to resist them. Till then keep your fingers crossed !
