Liverpool vs Barcelona Report – Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool performed a miracle by overcoming a three-goal deficit from the first leg and beating Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield in the second leg of the Champions League semifinal to reach the final.

Braces from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum did the job for the Reds, who were simply too good for the Spanish champions on the night.

It all started in the seventh minute when Jordan Henderson had his effort saved by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, but Origi was alert to the rebound and scored to instill belief in the players and the fans at the stadium.

Barcelona slowly tried to come back into the game and had a couple of chances of their own. The first of those vital moments fell to Lionel Messi, whose scooped effort was well-saved by Alisson.

At the stroke of half-time, from a Liverpool corner, the Catalan side broke and Messi played Jordi Alba through. The left-back  was then acrobatically denied by the Reds keeper, who had an inspired night.

Jurgen Klopp had to make a forced substitution at half-time, as Andy Robertson was kicked by Luis Suarez and couldn’t continue. Enter Georginio Wijnaldum!

The Dutchman made a timely run to get to the end of a Trent Alexander-Arnold cross and swept his effort in to make 2-0 on the night, with 36 minutes still to play.

The midfielder didn’t waste much time though and wiped out the first leg deficit by making another timely run into the box. This time, he got at the end of Xherdan Shaqiri’s cross and headed the ball home.

The comeback was complete in the 79th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold caught Barcelona napping with a quickly-taken corner. Origi was alive to that fact and swept his effort home to send Anfield into delirium.

Liverpool had to defend for the final 10 minutes and they did that to perfection to complete the miracle.

Here’s how their fans reacted to this remarkable game:
