Goalkeeping has become a word to be mentioned quietly at Anfield in recent years from Simon Mignolet to now the much-maligned Loris Karius, the position between the sticks is just one of a number of issues that Jurgen Klopp needs to address to fix his shaky defence.

Klopp was forced to drop Karius after a number of poor displays, with Simon Mignolet restored to the side and the Belgian has managed to keep two successive Premier League clean-sheets in the two games he’s started. However, Mignolet has let down Liverpool on crucial occasions and Klopp may need to lure in a more commanding and consistent goalkeeper.

Kasper Schmeichel was rewarded with a contract extension which would tie him down to the King Power stadium till 2021 and at 30 years old, he would still have a good three or four years at his prime. It would take around £20 million in the winter to get Leicester City talking about a move. Claudio Ranieri’s side is currently struggling at the bottom end of the table.

Schmeichel, a Premier League title winner with the Foxes, is seen as just the kind of experienced and reliable man that Liverpool need between the sticks if they are to seriously challenge for major honors. According, to Football Whispers, the Reds are plotting a move for the Danish professional.

Schmeichel had missed six straight league games with a fractured hand, but made his return against Stoke. Ranieri would be pained to again be without his No.1 and any move in January would have to be beneficial enough to see the Foxes forced to find a replacement within the next month.

Meanwhile, Lille have reportedly given up on signing the French international Mamadou Sakho. There were rumors of the centre-back leaving the Premier League but it appears that his future will remain at Anfield.

According to Lille’s new general manager Marc Ingla

“We are preparing for the January window. There are some interesting things we can do. We have contacted agents. We have spoken with the clubs. You have to do things properly. Depay and Sakho? I would prefer not to be specific! But I do not think that they will be coming to Lille, if you want an answer.” (via Independent)

Liverpool are currently 2nd in the Premier League with 37 points and are six points behind leaders Chelsea.
