Liverpool star’s game in numbers in the masterclass against Chelsea – looks absolutely brilliant

Liverpool opinion – Stats Analysis of Mohamed Salah v Chelsea

Liverpool banished the demons of 2014 and strolled past Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield to go back to the top of the Premier League table. Although they have played a game more than second-placed Manchester City, this was a big hurdle crossed by the Reds.

Bearing in mind that City’s game in hand is against Manchester United at Old Trafford next Wednesday, one would expect the pressure they would feel going into that game.

Coming back to the Liverpool win on Sunday, every player stepped up to the plate and performed exceptionally well. Jordan Henderson continues to impress in an advanced midfield role, while Fabinho is showing why the club spent big on him in the summer.

The best thing for Liverpool is the resurgence in form of the front three as a unit. Sadio Mane scored again, while Roberto Firmino is doing his job of linking the play up superbly. Furthermore, Mohamed Salah is back in it big time, which would certainly please Jurgen Klopp.

The Egyptian star, who arrived at Anfield last summer for £36.9m (which is peanuts now), was at it from minute one – he was taking players on, creating space for others and was also assured on the ball. Of course, he scored that rocket from 30 yards out as well.

Hence, let’s analyse his performance in detail and use some stats to back the facts up:

Stats Analysis – Mohamed Salah vs Chelsea

The former Roma man broke his mini-drought last week at Southampton and now looks a player we have come to expect. He was holding his width down the right-hand side and caused a lot of problems to Emerson.

The 26-year-old dribbled past defenders five times in the game, which is on the higher side given that he is tightly marked. He produced four key passes and had a general passing accuracy of 80%.

Moreover, the Egyptian won seven duels, tracked back to help Trent Alexander-Arnold when Chelsea attacked and also looked sharp in how to use the spaces. (Sofascore)

He was involved in the build-up of the first goal and scored an absolute worldie to the top corner to basically kill the game off. Apart from his strike for the goal, the 26-year-old had three more shots on target and two of them blocked. Hence, he was an ever-present danger to the Chelsea back-line.

Conclusion

When your main player is performing in the biggest game of the season, you can say that he is genuinely world-class. That’s what Liverpool would be feeling right now.

Salah produced a magical moment last week. He carried on that form with an even better all-around performance against Chelsea. Just to put that to context, he has scored 51 Premier League goals since arriving at Anfield in the summer of 2017. No one is close to him in this duration of time.
