Why Liverpool should definitely make a move for Lorenzo Insigne
According to the Metro, Liverpool are interested in making a move for Napoli star Lorenzo Insigne. The Italian attacking midfielder currently has 4 years left on his contract with the club but the player has long been linked with a move to the Premier League. Chelsea are also said to be interested in the player.
However, Jurgen Klopp should definitely make the move for the Napoli midfielder given his current form and demand. Though the Reds may have to shell out a huge fee, Insigne will be one of those signings that will be totally worth the money.
Only Genoa striker Kryzstof Piatek has scored more goals than Lorenzo Insigne this season and Klopp will know even better after watching the Reds go down to a last-minute goal from the 27-year-old in the Champions League.
Insigne is now at the right stage of his career to make the move to the Premier League and a number of his attributes should help him flourish in Klopp’s high-intensity system. Though he has predominantly been used as a left winger, the Italian is capable of playing anywhere across the front-line.
He is also comfortable playing on the right flank and as a lone forward, as he has done for Napoli in the Serie A this season. Insigne is also very good at sitting behind the striker in the No.10 role and dictating the play, which will help him thrive in this Liverpool side.
Liverpool lack a real creator in their ranks and that has often seen their famed attack scupper at times this season. Insigne is a technically brilliant footballer and possesses the individual qualities as well.
He has managed a pass success rate of 86.8% in the Serie A this season. The likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah would love to feed off his service. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
The 27-year-old’s vision will surely help him create opportunities up front and would make Liverpool more devastating on the counter. He possesses superb pace and loves to drive at defenders.
Insigne has averaged 4.4 shots per game in the league this season. That has allowed him to score 6 goals and provide 1 assist in 8 league appearances this campaign, while he has also scored 2 in the Champions League. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
Jurgen Klopp has started utilising a 4-2-3-1 formation in the last two weeks, using two number 6’s and deploying Roberto Firmino in the No.10 role. But the Brazilian has failed to make the most in that position and that is why Liverpool could do with Lorenzo Insigne at the moment.
The Reds are also competing on all fronts this season and one more offensive player should enhance and balance their offensive system. Jurgen Klopp should definitely sign the world-class Italian.
