The Shields Gazette has reported that Liverpool are ready to make a move for Luke Hewitson, with the Reds looking towards the future. The young goalkeeper has done relatively well for Sunderland, playing with their youth sides and climbing up at a rather remarkable rate.
At the moment, Liverpool have a near perfect side, although many would say that they lack the depth that Manchester City have at their disposal. While the Reds do sit at the top of the Premier League table, the lead is only two points and the Cityzens have a game in hand. This will intensify the title race even further.
The Reds spent heavily in the summer, including a new goalkeeper, opting to send Loris Karius out on loan instead. In walked Alisson Becker and the Brazilian has been downright incredible.
He leads the race for the Golden Glove with 17 clean sheets to his name but that isn’t a reason to not make a move for Luke Hewitson.
However, Liverpool have 5 goalkeepers at their disposal. All five, including Shamal George, Ben Williams, Vitezslav, Kai Mckenzie-Lyle and Daniel Atherton are bright talents. The list doesn’t even include Caoimhin Kelleher and Kamil Grabara, who have been playing well recently for the U16s and U18s.
However, for Liverpool, signing Hewitson would mean adding yet another talented goalkeeper to their ranks and it is something the Reds do not need. They already have far too many players at their disposal and for the young Luke Hewitson, it could be a detrimental move.
On the other hand, Sunderland can offer the young goalkeeper a better route to the first-team, which is something the player should consider.
Liverpool really need to consider what they are doing before making the move for Luke Hewitson, otherwise, things could end really badly. Instead, they could look towards reinforcing their defence and add a few more talented forwards, which will go a long way in helping the club.

Luke Hewitson has a bright future ahead of him and he cannot spend it by warming the bench at Liverpool. Instead, the youngster has to make sure he gets all the game time he needs to improve in the near future, before opting for a move to a bigger side.
