Liverpool signing this 30-year-old World champion would make them unbeatable

Why Liverpool should make a move for Thomas Muller in January

Back in 2017, German publication Bild (h/t The Liverpool Echo) had claimed that Liverpool were interested in signing Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller. While a move didn’t go through then, the Bild claims now that the German forward wants to leave Bayern Munich in January. (h/t The Liverpool Echo)

Thomas Muller, 30, endured a tough time under Niko Kovac at the start of the season, starting just a handful of games. But since Kovac’s departure and the appointment of interim coach Hansi Flick, the 30-year-old looks to be back to his best in his favoured No.10 role. Flick has restored the German behind and alongside Robert Lewandowski, who is breathing fire at the moment.

Regardless of Muller seemingly regaining his lost touch and back in favour at Bayern, Liverpool must rekindle their interest in the forward during the January transfer window.

Liverpool didn’t make a marquee signing in the summer, following their Champions League win and finishing as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League. The Reds shouldn’t stand still this season, with important challenges ahead.

Jurgen Klopp and co. are raring to win the Premier League title this time around and are currently enjoying an eight-point lead at the top of the table. While Klopp didn’t make any high-profile signing during the summer window, a couple of additions would freshen up the squad in January.

Liverpool arguably have the best attack in Europe, with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino forging a fantastic understanding between them. Divock Origi has been playing a bit-part role while Xherdan Shaqiri has struggled with injuries this season. However, one cannot ignore the fact that the Reds still lack depth in their attack.

Suffice to say, Klopp hardly has a top-quality back-up in his ranks to call upon. And to that end, the European champions should make a move for Thomas Muller in January.

Muller may have lost his scoring touch over the last couple of years but he is undoubtedly a quality player and could make an instant impact at Liverpool. Having lifted the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and tasted innumerable success at Bayern, the 30-year-old’s winning mentality is something Liverpool players could benefit with.

The Germany international’s movement is brilliant and his vision to find the right pass is an added bonus. He can also play in several positions across the attack and could provide some valuable cover for the deadly front three.

In the video below, one could get a glimpse of Muller’s footballing brain and the qualities he could bring to Klopp’s side if a deal goes through.

Verdict

Thus, Liverpool moving for Muller in January would certainly boost their attacking unit and gift them a significant lift in the second half of the season.
