Liverpool opinion: Klopp wants to sign Federico Chiesa – a good option?

Italian news outlet TuttoNapoli has revealed that Liverpool have joined the chase for Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa. Though the Reds are doing their best to outdo Manchester City this season, Jurgen Klopp’s team is far from perfect.

However, with eight games left in the Premier League, Liverpool do have pole position with a two-point lead. They’ve won four out of their last five games to reach that position but Manchester City do have one game in hand.

That being said, Liverpool’s team is far from perfect and could be picked apart next summer. Sadio Mane has been linked with a move to Real Madrid (Mirror), while Mohamed Salah has struggled over the last few weeks.

The Egyptian has struggled to score in the last few games, as he has just one goal in his last eight matches. This has put the onus on Mane, and the 26-year-old has stepped up.

But that being said, it’s no surprise that the Reds are after Fiorentina star Federico Chiesa. A Viola youth product, Chiesa has fought his way up into the ranks of the first-team and made quite an impact in the Serie A.

His precious talent has always been on show for the Viola, however, it wasn’t until his second full season that Chiesa really came to the fore, producing 15 goals in all competitions. This season, however, he’s taken things to another level and already has 11 goals and 8 assists to his name.

That is a phenomenal contribution for any player in the world, let alone a 21-year-old forward who has his father’s reputation to live up to. For Liverpool, it’s that work ethic they need.

Too much pressure has been put on Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firminio. What the club needs is someone else to rest their laurels on when required and Chiesa along with Xherdan Shaqiri, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi can do that.

Chiesa’s ability on the ball also makes him perfect as he is an unpredictable winger who combines speed and creativity to lethal effect. Moreover, he’s versatile enough to play anywhere across the front-line and that makes any prospect of a move that much more exciting.

Liverpool need someone to add freshness next season and signing someone as good as Federico Chiesa will be good. The young forward will only grow from here on and it further makes the move a brilliant one for the Reds.
