As per a report from Plymouth Herald, Liverpool are keen on FC Porto left-back Alex Telles, who has a release clause of £40million.
Alex Telles, 25, has established himself as one of Porto’s key players under Sergio Conceicao after moving to the Estadio do Dragao from Galatasaray.
The Brazilian had stints in his native with Juventude and Gremio before making a move to Europe with Galatasaray in 2014. He also spent time on loan at Inter Milan before making a permanent switch to Porto in 2016.
The 25-year-old is one of the most sought-after full-backs in European football. Alex Telles was one of the cornerstones in Porto’s title triumph last season under Sergio Conceicao and has started the 2018/19 campaign on a bright note as well.
Telles’ eye-catching performances at Porto have caught the attention of Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp must go all out to sign him in the New Year. Liverpool’s stunning unbeaten start to the 2018/19 Premier League campaign has already made them one of the hot contenders for the title.
The Reds have always been exciting to watch going forward ever since Klopp took charge of the club.
They have also looked defensively disciplined and well-drilled this season. Virgil van Dijk have Joe Gomez had forged a brilliant partnership in central defence, with full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson also impressing. At right-back, Alexander-Arnold is the first choice under Klopp and beyond him, the Reds have options in Joe Gomez and Nathaniel Clyne.
But Liverpool have very less cover at left-back, which is currently owned by Andrew Robertson. He has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League but an injury to him could see Alberto Moreno step in. Alberto Moreno’s Liverpool career has been a disappointing one and the Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Moreno’s departure from Liverpool is inevitable given the fact that Klopp hardly favours the former Sevilla ace. And to avoid a potential burn out of options next summer, the Reds must make a January swoop for Alex Telles.
Telles is an aggressive, attacking full-back who is blessed with a fantastic technique and engine. He is adept at creating opportunities with his pin-point crossing abilities. The Brazilian is pacy, industrious, tenacious, athletic, and has a magical left foot that is capable of scoring belters.
Telles excels with his attacking contributions from the left flank, and with his creativity and vision, he effectively serves as an extra attacking outlet. The Brazilian can even do a solid job further forward and despite being an attack-minded full-back, he is defensively diligent as well.
To put things into perspective, Telles would fit into Klopp’s attacking system at Liverpool. Hence, the Reds must not hesitate to splash the cash on the Porto star as he can become a real asset for the club.
