Liverpool opinion: The Reds should go all out for Inaki Williams
The 25-year-old has come through the youth system at Bilbao and has gone onto become a regular starter in the first-team in the last few seasons. A crowd favourite at Athletic, Inaki Williams just enjoyed his most prolific season, in which he scored 15 goals in all competitions for the Basque club.
That has seen him also attract interest from Atletico Madrid, who view the Spanish-born Ghanaian forward as the perfect replacement for wantaway Antoine Griezmann; however, Diego Simeone’s side have been put off by the £77m valuation.
That being said, Liverpool must spend big to lure Williams away from San Mames to Anfield this summer. The Reds will turn their full attention to ending what will be a 30-year wait for a league title next season after becoming European champions for a sixth time.
They lost only one Premier League game last season but were pipped to the crown by a single point by Manchester City in an incredible title race that went down to the last day of the season.
Winning the Champions League by defeating Tottenham in Madrid last month did soften the blow, but Jurgen Klopp and co. will go all out to win the Premier League title next term.
The German tactician has built a fantastic squad at Anfield, having recently added 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg to their ranks but ahead of the new campaign, he must add a bit more depth to his forward department.
In Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have one of the potent attacking units, capable of destroying any defences.
But they have released Daniel Sturridge and although Divock Origi proved his worth last term by chipping in with some crucial goals, Klopp could do well by signing another versatile forward.
The presence of talented players like Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi and the return of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from injury will lessen the burden on Klopp’s shoulders but some additional signings are certainly in order.
Moving for a player of Inaki Williams’ quality and potential would certainly be a huge statement by the Merseyside outfit.
Williams is a versatile forward, who is comfortable playing anywhere across the front-line. The Bilbao-born star is extremely pacey and quick off the ground, with an ability to send delicious crosses in the box from wider areas.
He is a good finisher in front of goal and works really hard off the ball, which should make him a good fit under Klopp at Anfield.

Not only will Williams bolster the Reds’ attacking ranks but also add competition for the likes of Salah, Mane and Firmino. It would be very difficult to dislodge the famous trio but as a squad player, the 25-year-old would be a fine player to welcome into the side.
If Liverpool can pull the deal off, Klopp’s chances of finally getting his hands on the Premier League title will increase massively.
