Liverpool news: Should Klopp make a move for Bruno Fernandes?

According to the Mirror, Liverpool are very keen on signing Sporting Lisbon’s attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes. Liverpool have been on the lookout for an attacking midfielder, as evident from their failed attempt to bring Lyon star Nabil Fekir to Anfield.

The Reds have struggled with regular injuries to Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who are the contenders to fill the role. Naby Keita is yet to prove his worth to the Anfield faithful and Georgino Wijnaldum remains Jurgen Klopp’s only other option. Bruno Fernandes would do an excellent job for the Merseysiders if brought in the summer.

Bruno Fernandes has had an incredible campaign for Sporting so far this season. The 24-year-old has found the net 17 times so far this season and has assisted a further 8 times.

Fernandes had been linked with another Premier League club, Chelsea, as the Blues sent scouts to watch him and Benfica duo Joao Felix and Ruben Dias.

The Portuguese international reads the game and positions himself brilliantly. His long shots are deadly and when given any space in and around the box, Fernandes is a nightmare to deal with.

His versatility is also a major bonus as he is capable of playing as a left-forward and anywhere in central midfield.

Fernandes averages 3.2 shots per game and 2.9 key passes per game. The former Sampdoria man also boasts of impressive passing numbers of 1.7 crosses and an outstanding 4.1 long passes per 90 minutes.

Star players like William Carvalho, Gelson Martins and Rui Patricio have already left the
Estádio José Alvalade, and Liverpool must try and lure Fernandes away.

Conclusion

Bruno Fernandes would be an excellent buy for Liverpool and could be a long-term replacement for James Milner. His brilliant ability on the ball will be welcomed by the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, who will thrive with the Portuguese’s through balls and long passes.

Although Fernandes is under contract with Sporting until 2023 with a release clause of €100million, Liverpool must try and negotiate a deal to land the Portuguese star.
