Dream Liverpool Lineup For Next Season Including Oxlade-Chamberlain And Marco Asensio

The start of the year saw Liverpool linked with a variety of stars for a move in the summer but with the end of the season almost upon us, the rumours have been making some sense recently. According to the papers in recent weeks, Real Madrid’s young sensation Marco Asensio and Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are two of the top priority transfer targets for Liverpool this summer.

Though neither will solve the defensive woes at Anfield, Liverpool could solve a problem or two if Klopp is able to lure them to the club. Asensio will cost north of £42m while ‘The Ox’ could cost around £35m this summer. This sums up to £77m, and is a significant investment for a club like Liverpool but how would they line up when they have to use the duo together? Here is an exciting lineup that Jurgen Klopp can field, including these two transfer targets:

Defence:

Klopp is convinced that the goal keeper’s issues at the club are solved and is not bothered about spending next season. This would mean Simon Mignolet could remain in goal for the club. Nathaniel Clyne will be challenged more and more for the right back position by Trent Arnold while James Milner might get a new competition who would replace Alberto Moreno.

Joel Matip should remain the first choice while Dejan Lovren may have to compete with a new signing to partner Matip at the back.

Midfield:

Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana, and Georginio Wijnaldum have been playing together excellently while Emre Can has also been good. Klopp has stuck to a 4-3-3 this season but if he is able to get in a top class defensive midfielder, he can use a more attacking 4-2-3-1 system, which would see Oxlade-Chamberlain play as a part of the three behind the striker.

The English midfielder can also play a role as a part of the midfield three where his industry and creativity can help add balance to Liverpool’s squad. Asensio is a capable midfield player and Klopp might use him in a deeper role, but he is at his best in an advanced role and he should be a part of the front three if he moves to Anfield.

Attack:

While Roberto Firmino, Divock Origi, and Danny Ings might find more competition than just Daniel Sturridge next season, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane should retain their places in the squad. It will be interesting to see how Klopp juggles his first team if he sticks to a 4-3-3 system.

But by playing a 4-2-3-1, Klopp can use Asensio and Mane on either flank, using Coutinho as a proper number 10 just behind Firmino or a new signing. This will add some balance to the squad while Ox can be pushed back, as a part of the midfield duo, alongside an industrious midfielder of the highest quality.

Here is the first option for Jurgen Klopp if he has to use the duo (4-2-3-1):
