Liverpool Player Ratings vs Leicester

Liverpool finally got a win after failing to do so since defeating Southampton 6-1 in the League Cup. The Reds were slightly better than table-topping Leicester and the big news were the returns of Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren to the starting lineup.

Liverpool though were dealt a blow after Divock Origi had to be substituted early on in the game and Christian Benteke had to be brought on and it was the Belgian who got the only goal of the game in the second half. Leicester were tough to play against and succumbed to just their second loss of the season though they can take a lot of positives from the game.

The Reds needed the victory and although they didn’t play the greatest of games, they will take the result and press on for a good run in the second half of the season. With a game coming up in a couple of days, it could be important to keep the best players from this game in the team and hence here are the ratings from their victory at Anfield.

Simon Mignolet: 7/10

Mignolet didn’t really have much to do in the game but still looked extremely nervy coming to collect balls from corners.

Nathaniel Clyne: 7/10

A decent showing by Clyne who wasn’t troubled all that much by the Leicester wingers. The Englishman linked up really well with the attack as well.

Dejan Lovren: 9/10 (Man Of The Match)

The man-of-the-match, Lovren was exceptional in defending and was a welcome return to the Liverpool team. The Croatian has been excellent under Klopp and was calm and composed at the back.

Mamadou Sakho: 6/10

Mamadou Sakho might be a great defender when it comes to physicality, but his passing and decision making is so awkward. There were a lot of scary moments from the Frenchman and certainly he needs a talking to by Klopp.

Alberto Moreno: 7/10

Moreno had a decent game, didn’t really do anything wrong but didn’t perform to his best abilities.

Emre Can: 7/10

Emre Can had a tough game in the heart of midfield but did enough to win the battle along with Henderson against the Leicester midfield.

Jordan Henderson: 7/10

The Captain was all energy tonight and that was important for them to get the victory.

Philippe Coutinho: 6/10

The Brazilian didn’t really do much in the second half, but Liverpool need him to do more if they want to get into the top four.

Adam Lallana: 7/10

Lallana was one of the brightest players on the pitch against Leicester and certainly ran his socks off for the team.

Roberto Firmino: 5/10

Firmino was horrible in the first half, but he got the assist which helped Benteke score the only goal of the game but needs to work a lot harder if he has to keep his place in the starting XI.

Divock Origi: 5/10

The Belgian was one of the few bright spots for Liverpool in the first half but had to be replaced with an injury just when he was starting to cement a place in the team.

Substitutes

Christian Benteke: 6/10

The Belgian might have scored the goal that won the game but his overall play is still a bit iffy and the last minute madness that led to Benteke badly messing up an open goal chance shows he has a lot to do.

Lucas Leiva: NA

Lucas had a decent chance in the last minute to score but barring that he was brought on in the 91st minute and didn’t have much to do in the game.

Joe Allen: NA

Came on late as a substitute for Adam Lallana and didn’t really have a lot of time to do much in the game.
