Liverpool Player Ratings Against Southampton – Credits To Suarez

Luis Suarez

A controlled yet terrific performance from Liverpool gave them a convincing 3-0 win away to Southampton at the St Mary’s in Saturday’s late kick off. As a result of the win, the Reds jumped to second in the league table, taking advantage of Arsenal’shock loss to Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. Whether or not Liverpool would get close to the title is for everyone to see, but at the moment Brendan Rodgers’ side are very well placed for a Champions League berth for next season.

Here are the Liverpool player ratings from St Mary’s.

Simon Mignolet: The Belgian kept a rare clean sheet. Mignolet was impressive with two terrific saves and was also lucky after Adam Lallana hit the post following a goalmouth scramble.

Rating: 2.5/5

Jon Flanagan: Was given a tough time on the right by Luke Shaw and was caught out of position quite too often. But his commitment to the game cannot be discredited at any given day.

Rating: 2.5/5

Daniel Agger: The Southampton attackers threw everything till the very end but the Dane was equal to the task absorbing some serious pressure. Showed Vast improvement from his poor show against Swansea last weekend.

Rating: 3/5

Martin Skrtel: Commanding presence in the heart of defence resisting Lambert and Rodriguez with his good organisation in the back four. Good performance worthy of mentioning from the Slovakian.

Rating: 3/5

Glen Johnson: Matured performance from the Englishman in his unfavoured left back role. Did very well in retaining the ball for his side.

Rating: 3/5

Jordan Henderson: Worked his socks off for his team, but after his best performance in a Liverpool shirt against Swansea, it was a let down. However he will improve and show signs of immense potential in the coming games.

Rating: 2.5/5

Joe Allen: Has he improved? Or hasn’t he? The Welshman was given the role to protect the back four in a defensive midfield role and did well to put in a good shift in.

Rating: 2.5/5

Steven Gerrard: Yet again a Gerrard-esque performance from the skipper. Incisive at his very best and rounded up Liverpool’s comfortable win with a majestic penalty.

Rating: 3/5

Philippe Coutinho: Looked lost throughout the time he played, didn’t do anything worthwhile mentioning. The Brazilian is inexplicably found these days and has to improve in the coming weeks.

Rating: 1.5/5

Daniel Sturridge: One of those rare games in which he didn’t find the back of the net. Did run at the Southampton defence in between the channels and worked well in tandem with Suarez.

Rating: 2.5/5

Luis Suarez: Majestic, brilliant, gracious, immaculate. I have lost words for this special Uruguayan. Great way to mark his 100th appearance for Liverpool by scoring, assiting and then winning the penalty all by his own. What a lad!

Rating: 4.5/5
