Liverpool Player Ratings Against Bournemouth: Benteke Opens His Account, Average Display Overall

Liverpool players celebrating Coutinho's goal

Liverpool continued their winning run in the Premier League with a hard fought 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield. The Reds won their second game in a row with the same score line thanks to a controversial goal by Christian Benteke. The Belgian might have scored his first goal for the club, but Philippe Coutinho was in an offside position and based on the new rule, the goal should not have stood.

Bournemouth were actually giving Liverpool a good fight and should have gotten something from the game. Liverpool though will not mind as they continue their winning run and we rate the performance of the Liverpool players from the game.

Simon Mignolet: 7/10

The Belgian did his best in between the sticks for Liverpool, he wasn’t tested heavily by the Bournemouth team, but they were a bit of a problem for the Liverpool goalkeeper, who did well to keep a clean sheet.

Nathaniel Clyne: 8/10

Another solid display by the new right-back for Liverpool, he didn’t play out of his skin but didn’t make great mistakes either during the 90 minutes.

Dejan Lovren: 7/10

The Croatian did well with his central defensive partner and kept Bournemouth’s attacks in control, especially in the second half which Bournemouth dominated.

Martin Skrtel: 7/10

Skrtel did extremely well to contain the Bournemouth team, two games and two clean sheets, it can’t get better than that for the defence.

Joe Gomez: 7/10

The left-back was at his best and was constantly tested by Bournemouth down the left hand side, he was booked and had to be a little careful so that he would not be sent off.

James Milner: 7/10

Milner was his normal self, putting himself about the midfield and doing his best. He put in a decent performance but Liverpool would be expecting more from the Englishman.

Jordan Henderson: 6/10

The captain didn’t have a brilliant game to be honest and was replaced early in the second half by Emre Can, probably due to a slight injury.

Adam Lallana: 8/10

One of the hardest working players on the pitch, Adam Lallana didn’t set the world on fire with his performance, but he does need to step up in the attacking aspects of his game for Liverpool.

Philippe Coutinho: 7/10

Coutinho couldn’t be the spark for Liverpool like he was against Stoke, he still had a few moments of brilliance but overall he didn’t have the greatest of nights for Liverpool.

Jordon Ibe: 7/10

The youngster was his normal self, doing the hard work down the wings for Liverpool. He does need to work on his final product as that was the part which was lacking during the game.

Christian Benteke: 8/10

Christian Benteke scored what could be interpreted as an offside goal, according to the new rules but he won’t care, he came close to doubling his tally late in the second half but saw his effort come off the crossbar.

Substitutes:

Emre Can: 6/10

Can was brought on to replace Henderson and brought some muscle in the midfield but surprisingly, the midfield battle was still won by an impressive Bournemouth team.

Roberto Firmino: 5/10

The bedding in process for the Brazilian continues as he was brought into the team in the second half, he didn’t set the world on fire and needs to do more for the club.

Alberto Moreno: 7/10

The Spaniard was brought on to play in an advanced position ahead of Joe Gomez and was a bright spark for Liverpool, even though he played a few minutes against Bournemouth.
