Liverpool opinion: The Reds should dismiss PSG’s bid for Firmino

According to the Daily Mail, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel has earmarked Roberto Firmino as a player to sign in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian is often suggested to be the most important player in Jurgen Klopp’s system at Liverpool. He’s the first line of defence in Jurgen Klopp’s high pressing system and is a foil for the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane, who shoulder the goalscoring burden in the team.

Liverpool and Klopp will have to make certain that Firmino isn’t swayed by PSG. The report states that Liverpool will not budge.

The chances of Liverpool getting a traditional centre-forward are less likely now, with Salah and Mane taking up the central positions quite often this season when Klopp has felt like shaking things up a little.

Paris Saint-Germain, on the other hand, could be looking to sell Edinson Cavani, with him being linked to Manchester United in recent weeks. The 32-year-old Uruguayan striker is a fan favourite at the Parc des Princes.

With Kylian Mbappe taking most of the goalscoring responsibility this season, Cavani may be a hindrance to the young Frenchman’s development, who looks likely to make the centre-forward position his own as he grows older.

Firmino, who earns £180,000-a-week, wouldn’t be a hindrance to Mbappe’s development as he can play in various forward positions not limited to a central role. However, it would be in Firmino’s best interest to stay put at Liverpool.

The Merseyside outfit have made it to the Champions League final in succession, which suggests that he should continue his football at Liverpool if he’s looking for the biggest prizes.

Conclusion

PSG have promised a lot over the years but have eventually flattered to deceive.

Despite the money that might be on offer, PSG might have lost their appeal in the last few years after struggling to overcome mental barriers in the Champions League knock-out stages. It would be in Liverpool and Firmino’s best interests to stay put.
