Liverpool Are One Of The Teams Fighting For A Top-4 Finish, But These 3 Players Will Define Their Season

Share

The victory over Tottenham Hotspur might have given the Reds a bit of a breather but their recent results in the league will show that they are still a work in progress. Though they have some star players who are in decent form, they have not been able to get consistent results and are on the fringes of a place in the top-4 in the points table. Their title hopes vanished long back, and a place in the Champions League is the only thing they can fight for at the moment and Jurgen Klopp will want each and every player in his squad to be at their best to help push the club into the top-4. However, a few players in the squad have not been able to keep their performances up recently and here are three of them who need to step up if Liverpool are to qualify for the Champions League next season:

Liverpool are aiming for a top-four finish this season.

Simon Mignolet:

The first choice shot-stopper for Jurgen Klopp in the league, Mignolet has yet again cost the club a few points this season. His howler against Chelsea cost Liverpool a couple of points at Anfield and Jurgen Klopp will know that he can fast turn into a liability. But on the whole, the Belgian has been solid at the back for the club and should stay as the first choice for the rest of the season. So he will have to be at his best, improve his recent performances and help Liverpool strengthen at the back, which in turn will help them climb up the points table.

Simon Mignolet has been inconsistent for Liverpool and has to step it up.

Dejan Lovren:

The former Southampton man has not been a fan favorite since his move to the club. At the start of the season, he showed great promise, which is now fading away slowly. In the month of January, he was all over the place for his side and he was been superb playing alongside the first choice centre-half Joel Matip and will hope to emulate such performances till the end of the season. Liverpool have done well with the centre-back pairing of Matip and Lovren, with both players complementing each other and it is up to Lovren to stay strong and help his side by putting in confident performances in the half a dozen matches that are left in the season.

Lovren has faded away in his performances in recent times.

Philippe Coutinho:

Arguably the most important player for Liverpool in the attack, Coutinho started the season brilliantly. However, he picked up an unfortunate injury late last year and has not been the same ever since. He came back into action less than a month ago and is yet to find the back of the net for his team. He has shown glimpses of what he is capable of doing on the field, but it has not been consistent enough to take Liverpool into the top4. However, he has what it takes to turn things around and if Klopp can get him back to his best, Liverpool are more than assured of a place in the Champions League next season.

Coutinho has to quickly find his early season form again if Liverpool are to benefit.
