Liverpool offloading 26-year-old star for £20m could turn out to be a win-win for all parties involved

Why Danny Ings must leave Liverpool and move to Leicester City

Liverpool have re-established their significance in the European circuit despite suffering a Champions League final heartbreak against Real Madrid. In fact, they have made quite a splash in the ongoing transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp must end the trophy drought in Merseyside and has sent a strong statement of intent by roping in Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker to increase quality as well as squad depth.

The club, meanwhile, are also working on offloading their fringe players and Danny Ings’ unfortunate spell at Anfield might see a premature end amid interest from Crystal Palace, along with Leicester City, Newcastle United and Southampton.

Danny Ings

Ings spent the majority of his three-year spell in rehab due to successive knee surgeries and although he is now up and running, the 26-year-old Englishman has lost his starting role.

He has netted 4 goals in 25 games since moving from Burnley but he must make up for lost time with regular minutes. It is unlikely for Ings to start ahead of Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge, meaning an exit seems like the best option.

The management, thus, has decided to part ways on good terms and won’t stand in his way if any potential suitor meets the Reds’ demands of £20million.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, are frontrunners to acquire the Englishman to sort out their striker conundrum. Roy Hodgson, the Eagles chief, was forced to deploy their dynamic wide attacker Wilfried Zaha as a makeshift centre-forward.

However, the player must weigh up his options before coming to a conclusion and choose a destination that suits his playing style. Palace, under Hodgson, have mostly exhibited an old-school football with a big No.9 inside the box waiting for long balls and crosses.

Ings, who is more familiar to a pressing and passing game, should prefer moving to a side where he can utilize his attributes without compromising his usual skill set.

Leicester, among all rumored potential suitors, will be a suitable terminus for the Liverpool forward due to their ambition of reclaiming a place in Europe.

Both Jamie Vardy and Shinji Okazaki are now in their thirties, meaning the club require a successor who can offer instant impact. Kelechi Iheanacho, 21, had an underwhelming run since completing a high-profile move from Manchester City last summer and he needs time before leading their front line in the long run.

Ings’ work rate will allow space for Vardy to make his direct runs towards opponents’ defence in counter-attacking situations.

Both Leicester City and Ings will benefit from the deal and the former Premier League champions must step up the chase to bring the Liverpool marksman in at King Power Stadium.
