Liverpool must forget about signing this 25-year-old who provided as many assists as Eden Hazard last season

Why Liverpool should avoid splashing the cash to sign Ryan Fraser

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool are interested in signing Bournemouth star, Ryan Fraser.

Ryan Fraser, 25, notched up 14 Premier League assists last season – the most in the division alongside Eden Hazard – and also chipped in with seven goals across all 38 games. He has been a crucial member of the Cherries ever since joining from Scottish club Aberdeen.

Following his impressive performances, the Scotland international, who has just one year left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium, has recently attracted interest from Liverpool. But should the Reds make a move for Ryan Fraser?

Liverpool enjoyed an excellent campaign last season, winning the Champions League and narrowly missing out on the Premier League title by just one point to Manchester City. There are a couple of areas of the Reds’ squad that is weak and in need of strengthening.

To improve the squad further to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title once again, Jurgen Klopp should have at least added a couple of world-class players. Instead, he has so far prioritised signing young players with high potential and added the likes of Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliot.

With just a few days left for the transfer window to close, the Reds tactician definitely must boost his squad by adding a couple of quality players. However, Bournemouth’s Ryan Fraser shouldn’t be the player Liverpool should look to sign.

The European champions are heavily stocked in midfield and it’ll be difficult for any new attacking player to dislodge one of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane from the attack.

There are the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana, who add a touch of guile to the Reds’ attack, which means Fraser will have to go through a lot of competition to cement his place in Klopp’s starting XI.

At the age of 25, Fraser will be entering the prime years of his career. No player would ever want to spend the best years by being a backup or featuring just in cup competitions.

The diminutive winger should rather move to a club where he’ll be a guaranteed starter, as that will help him in his international career as well.

Verdict

Hence, a move to Liverpool would be detrimental to Fraser’s progress. On the other hand, the Reds could, and should, do a lot better than the Bournemouth winger.
