More than a fair share of youth stars have played this season for Liverpool, with the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ki-Jan Hoever, Rafa Camacho and a few others flourishing. It’s been a feature of Jurgen Klopp’s teams even during his spell at Borussia Dortmund and now it looks like the Reds have a new target.
Sunderland U14 star James McConnel has been a standout star for the club, and more importantly, he has been showing a lot of promise. An a-typical winger, the youngster played a big role in the Black Cats winning the Youdan Trophy recently, scoring a superb solo goal that personified him.
It showed off the best in McConnel, with his pace, power and even clinical nature in front of the goal. Simply mesmeric to watch at times, James McConnel really has a lot to offer Liverpool and his work-ethic is immense for someone his age.
The youngster has a long way to go before he becomes a player worthy of playing for Liverpool. But at the current rate, McConnel has what it takes.
Only time will tell if he ever does develop into a class act. While it undoubtedly is a risk to take on a young and untested star, James McConnel has the talent to become a great star in the near future.
However, given that Sunderland do offer a better first team chance for a budding young star, it’s a move that would benefit both parties.
