Liverpool Latest: Brendan Rodgers Has A Dig At Suarez And Midfielder Is Set For A Medical At London Club

Brendan Rodgers has taken an extreme stance against Luis Suarez for the striker’s reluctance to ask for an apology. After segregating the player from the Liverpool squad in training, now the manager has made some aggressive statements against the Uruguayan.

“There has been a lot said and a lot reported, and we have made a stance, as a club and as a manager, of the commitment and the standards required.  If you don’t have that commitment, and those standards, then you won’t play. It’s as simple as that. If we have got to sit and wait, then so be it. But this is a club that has got great values, and we hope that the situation can be resolved amicably, and I am sure it will be. There’s no problem between me and him, it is quite calm. But obviously I have got to respect the club and the team. It doesn’t matter who you are, if they’re not pulling their weight then they are letting down the club, the city and everyone who has stood by them. So until I get that assurance that we are going to get nothing but 100 per cent commitment, then there will be no solution.”, Rodgers said.

But Rodgers has insisted that the situation is still under the club’s control. “It is something that we have to do everything we can to fix,” he added.

In other news, Liverpool flop Stewart Downing seems to be heading back to West Ham and rejoin former Liverpool players Andy Carroll and Joe Cole. If reports (Guardian, Skysports, Telegraph have all reported) are to be believed, the England player is having a medical at West Ham today prior to his £5m move and an official announcement may be made anytime soon.

The former Aston Villa player joined the Merseyside club on a £20m move two summers ago, but has since found hard to cope up with the expectations of the price tag.

Earlier in January he was told by Rodgers that he was free to leave with reports linking him to Middlesbrough, his first club. But he responded with an improved performance and regained his place in the side. Now with Downing gone, Rodgers must look to strengthen his side before the start of the new season.
