Liverpool holding onto their £80,000-a-week crucial star is an absolute no-brainer and Klopp must do this

Liverpool opinion: The Reds should keep Andrew Robertson at any cost

It’s been an incredible season for Liverpool but in the end Manchester City proved to be more than worthy opponents. The Reds finished with 97 points, just one loss and of course ended up losing the title by just one point in the end.

The loss to Manchester City, which also happened to be their only loss of the season, proved to be the difference maker. Of course, had the Reds won even one of their seven draws during that stretch where they dropped points, the title would have been theirs.

But that’s done and dusted with nothing the club can do about the past now. All they can do is look towards the future and that future is a rather bright one given what lies ahead. Their next step will be the Champions League final.

That’s Jurgen Klopp will face Mauricio Pochettino with Tottenham reaching their first Champions League final. It shows just how much the top-six sides have improved over the course of the season, with Arsenal and Chelsea fighting it out in the Europa League final.

Despite all that, Liverpool’s biggest task will be keeping the best players/core members of their squad at the club. That may be easier said than done with Mohamed Salah linked to Juventus, and now it seems that Barcelona have taken a keen interest in Andrew Robertson.

The Mirror has reported as such, with the £80,000-a-week Scottish left-back emerging as a surprise target. The Catalan giants are looking for a new left-back, despite Jordi Alba doing a great job. This is with the Spaniard’s age in mind, who is now 30 years old.

It’s no surprise that they’re targeting new additions to the club and Andrew Robertson would be a great buy. However, for Liverpool, it’s a deal that they cannot let happen.

He’s one of only two players to play 36 games this season and it would have been 38 if not for various other reasons. Robertson finished the season with 11 assists, which was the joint highest total for a defender before Trent Alexander-Arnold waltzed past him.

Add that to Robertson’s defensive nuance and incredible offensive ability and it makes him a must-have star. That is if Liverpool ever want another chance at that coveted Premier League title as they look to end a 30-year drought.

It’s very likely that with a few changes and additions, the Reds will have another shot at taking Manchester City down. But to do that, they need to keep their current crop intact.

Conclusion

Andrew Robertson is easily one of the world’s best left-backs alongside Barcelona star Jordi Alba, and that alone makes him a must keep for Liverpool. But to make things interesting, the Reds have a bonafide chance at a title next season and keeping Robertson at the club will be a big part of that.
