Why Marquinhos would be the perfect player to partner Virgil Van Dijk
Liverpool are aiming to make a fresh start to their season after manager Jurgen Klopp brought in a number of exciting talents into the squad. The Reds signed the likes of Fabinho, Naby Keita, Shaqiri, and recently completed a world record deal for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker for a reported fee of around £66.8million.
Liverpool now possess the world’s most expensive goalkeeper and defender in their ranks. The Reds’ defensive frailties have drastically reduced since the arrival of Virgil Van Dijk in January.
But Jurgen Klopp is still interested in signing one more centre-back to partner the Dutchman. Dejan Lovren has been far too inconsistent in his performances and Klopp needs to replace him.
PSG centre-back Marquinhos is said to be available on the market. Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing the young central defender who has impressed for the French outfit. Klopp should hijack the move and steal the player for himself.
Marquinhos made the move to PSG in 2013, after impressing at Serie A outfit Roma for one year. He has since gone on to make a total of 130 appearances for the French club, scoring 8 goals and lifting a number of trophies at the Parc Des Princes.
Champions League winners Real Madrid are also hot on the pursuit to sign the Brazilian. But any club wanting to prize him away will have to cough up £40million that PSG are demanding. His impressive performances for the French Champions landed him a spot in Tite’s Brazilian squad at the World Cup.
Marquinhos made a total of 26 appearances in the Ligue 1 last year, providing 2 assists in the process. He also provided 1 assist in 8 Champions League appearances. The defender is a strong, tall, agile and energetic player to have the back.
Marquinhos is rarely prone to making mistakes or playing sloppy passes. In fact, the 24-year-old averaged a pass success rate of 93.9% in the Ligue 1 last year. He also poses a huge aerial threat from set-pieces.
Jurgen Klopp has already proven that his mantra attracts big players to the club, with the Reds signing a number of high-profile players since his arrival at the club. He should make a move for Marquinhos and get one over his rivals.

The Brazilian would be a perfect match to partner Van Dijk in defence. Both the defenders are confident and commanding at the back. They both pose a huge aerial threat as well. It could take a miracle to breach the Liverpool defence with Marquinhos in the squad.
