Why Liverpool Should Go For This German International Rather Than This Young Portuguese?

It seems to be the end of the road for Liverpool’s left-back Alberto Moreno. The Spaniard has had a difficult time adjusting to the Premier League and his last game, in the Europa League final, showed his inadequacies in defending.

Although Jurgen Klopp did not blame the Spaniard for the three goals the Reds conceded in the second half to Sevilla, the youngster was at fault for the first one and has looked woefully out of form and ability in most of the games since his big money move from Sevilla a couple of years ago.

Liverpool haven’t wasted time in the transfer market and have already strengthened a couple of positions which had issues last season. Loris Karius and Joel Matip are set to make the goalkeeping and central defending areas better respectively this season and the Reds seem to have narrowed down their search to two players.

A German or a Portuguese?

The first player being heavily linked with a move to Liverpool is FC Koln’s Jonas Hector, the star man is Germany’s first choice left-back and that in itself should speak a lot about the qualities the 26-year-old possesses.

The other player in the running for a place in the Liverpool team, should he join, is Raphael Guerreiro. The 22-year-old has been one of the stars in Ligue 1 last season and seems set to depart FC Lorient in search of greener pastures.

To lure either player, Liverpool would have to shell out a lot of money, but both players are currently better than Moreno and would actually provide them a lot more stability when it comes to defending from the left, something that Moreno has struggled to do ever since he signed for Liverpool.

Although Guerreiro is the younger of the duo, playing in the French league might not be the way to go for Liverpool, after all, it took a lot of time for Divock Origi to settle in and that is just one example. Jonas Hector has been able to cement a place in a team which is probably the best in the world.

He even was able to keep out another stalwart in the German team, Philipp Lahm, who probably is one of the best defenders to have ever played for Germany. Hector also seems to have put his defensive duties to the fore and pays more attention to that facet of the game, that is exactly what Liverpool want and need.

He could be compared to Nathaniel Clyne, a no nonsense right-back that Liverpool already have. Hector would be a perfect signing for the Reds after all that they have been through, a proper defender who knows what to do and maybe with age and experience on his side, he could be the best signing that Klopp makes in the summer.
