Liverpool edge close in on Joe Allen

Reds boss Brendan rodgers is confident that he can sign his former mid field man Joe Allen from Swansea.

Allen proved to be an integral part of Swansea’s impressive debut Premier League season, making 36 appearances and his polished performances helped him secure a place in Stuart Pearce’s Team GB squad, who take on Senegal at Old Trafford on Thursday. Rodgers admitted that Allen was a top target at Anfield, and that they were working hard to put an agreement in place. It is believed that a fee around £13.5 million would be enough to lure Swansea to sell their star performer.

The Reds will, however be forced to wait a little longer before pushing a deal through mainly because the Wales international is involved with Team GB at the 2012 Olympics.

It is looking increasingly likely, though, that he will be on his way to Merseyside once his quest for gold medal glory comes to an end

This would be the second signing of Brendan Rodgers this summer after securing the services of Fabio Borini, who is expected to make his debut against his old club Roma in a showpiece friendly at Boston’s Fenway Park on Wednesday.
