Liverpool beating Man City to land this 20-year-old promising prospect would add a lot of creativity to their midfield

Why Liverpool should beat Man City to the signature of Houssem Aouar

According to a report in Sun Football, Liverpool have joined Premier League champions Manchester City in the race to sign Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar. The highly-rated player has come through the ranks in French football and is currently a hot prospect in Ligue 1. The 20-year-old played in both Champions League games against City and delivered fantastic performances in both legs.

Even Pep Guardiola was slabbing about the youngster’s performance, which speaks volumes about the player. As a follow up, City have wasted no time in making contact with the midfielder’s representatives. (Sun)

However, Liverpool have also joined the race and have asked the Ligue 1 club to keep them informed about the player in the future. (Sun)

Here’s why Jurgen Klopp’s men should seize the opportunity and buy Aouar sooner than later:

Houssem Aouar

Reds’ lack of technicality in the midfield

Liverpool have made a great start to their league campaign and are well on course to challenge Manchester City for the title this season. Yet, their performance level hasn’t been that attractive, which is a positive thing as mediocre form has earned them 42 points out of the possible 48.

The injury to Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain means they do not have a midfield player who can run past people and create space for others. In short, they have nobody to take risks in the central areas of the pitch. They signed Naby Keita to be that creative link between the lines but the Guinean is taking time to settle down.

Here’s where Houssem Aouar would be of use to Liverpool. The Frenchman is a versatile central midfield player who can play on the left wing too if required. His ball control in tight areas under immense pressure is phenomenal.

The passing range and accuracy are right up there with the best. The technical skills to pick out key passes is probably the best in Ligue 1.

The 20-year-old is most effective in a situation where there is turn over of possession, as he possesses the propensity to pick out a pass to split the opposition defence.

Liverpool would do well by signing this young sensation. Their creativity problem can be solved, which will in turn enable the front three to get better service in the final third. If he arrives, Aouar would love working under a manager like Klopp.
