Liverpool and one other ideal summer destination for Leicester City’s star turn to consider

Riyad Mahrez

Two Ideal Summer Destinations For Riyad Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez has managed to make a name for himself in the Premier League ever since Leicester City sparked a miraculous series of displays to secure the league title in the 2015-16 season. Although the Foxes were underwhelming in their next season as defending champions, the Algerian attacker continues to be vital to the club’s fortunes.

The Foxes, however, began this season on a rather weak note as Craig Shakespeare failed to extract the best out of the team. In fact, they even spent a good majority of the season living dangerously close to the relegation zone and that eventually led to the sacking of the manager.

The Leicester owners are known to be quite ruthless when it comes to letting managers leave in the event of undesirable results and they eventually turned their attention to former Southampton manager Claude Puel. The Frenchman has managed to pull Leicester out of danger and into the top ten and Mahrez’s performances have also significantly improved.

The Algerian is clearly an indispensable member of the Leicester squad and although he has been linked to an exit a couple of times, the club did not let him leave. It is understandable since they need to line up a solid replacement before even letting him near the exit door but they might not be able to hold on to him beyond the upcoming summer.

Clubs have been circling for his signature for quite some time and here are two ideal destinations for Mahrez.

Chelsea

The Blues have been linked with a move to sign Mahrez for quite some time now and they might just land their man over the summer. Eden Hazard’s future at the club is increasingly uncertain and Pedro and Willian have not been consistent enough to replace the Belgian.

Hence, to that end, it becomes necessary to sign a player like Mahrez. The Algerian is nippy, agile and can create chances as efficiently as he can he score goals, making him ideal for a club like Chelsea. Of course, he will not come cheap and it remains to be seen if Roman Abramovich is willing to meet the valuation.

Liverpool

Liverpool already have excellent wingers in the form of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah but back when Mane picked up an injury, they had to turn to Philippe Coutinho to replace him. However, with no Coutinho in the squad, Jurgen Klopp might be tempted to make a move for Mahrez.

Like Chelsea, the Reds were also linked to a move for the Algerian and with a lot of moves possible in the summer transfer window, they could be tempted to reconsider signing Mahrez. Having a player like him in the ranks will definitely boost their attack and it could help them in the long run as they look to win a trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
