Liverpool: 3 Reasons Why Rodgers Should Avoid Signing This PSG Forward

Ezequiel Lavezzi, for all his talent on the field certainly does a lot more off the field. Remember the World Cup in Brazil, there was this little clip showing Lavezzi squirting water from a bottle onto the then Argentina coach Sabella. His misdemeanours just don’t stop and in a recent bit of news, he not only missed the winter retreat to Morocco with his club PSG, he stated that he would join them a couple of days later, probably enjoying the New Year celebrations.

He has never seen eye to eye with Laurent Blanc, the PSG coach and it seems that he has started to vent his frustration at not being played in his preferred position or being put on the bench for other star players. A whole host of clubs are out to sign him with Inter Milan, Napoli and Liverpool all in the fray; we look at 3 reasons why Lavezzi moving to Liverpool isn’t the right move.

At the wrong side of 20

Liverpool have a set policy thanks to their owners FSG who will not buy players close to 30 years of age, Lavezzi for all his talent is 29 and moving from PSG to Liverpool would cost a bundle, not to mention his contract which would be astronomical. If Liverpool have been having problems negotiating Glen Johnson and Steven Gerrard’s contracts, how could they just splash the money on Lavezzi, who could probably end up on the bench for a while as he gets accustomed to English football.

Not the best behaved

I doubt anyone would want to have a trouble maker in their team but Lavezzi might be a little too much for certain managers, Liverpool already have Mario Balotelli in the side and if Lavezzi joins you never know what might happen but there is a bigger chance of things going wrong than right.

Liverpool took a gamble bringing in Balotelli but that hasn’t worked, why would they risk bringing in Lavezzi who has never played English football and who was used to playing in the Italian Serie A. Lavezzi is loved for his time at Napoli and Rafa Benitez bringing back to Naples would make more sense that Rodgers taking a gamble on a player, who probably is just as big a problem on the field as off it. Rodgers needs someone who will adapt quickly to the team and style, Lavezzi surely won’t be able to do it fast enough for Liverpool.

Liverpool already have good wingers

Liverpool already have a plethora of talent to play in the wings. Raheem Sterling, Lazar Markovic, Phillipe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and even Daniel Sturridge can play out wide and one thing is common between the players is that they are quick, maybe Lallana is not the quickest of the lot but the rest are not well built but are quick on the ball.

Lavezzi is built like a bull and he wouldn’t have the nimbleness of a Sterling or Lallana, they are tricky players as was seen during Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Swansea, with Sturridge coming back from injury soon, there would be even more competition for places and that isn’t something that Lavezzi wants to deal with right now, he is upset at being used as a substitute and at Liverpool, his role would probably be either as an impact player or a centre forward at the start, Liverpool should steer clear of the Argentine for the sake of their season, which finally seems to be clicking.
