Liverpool 2-2 Newcastle: Player Ratings For The Reds As Mignolet Costs Them The Points

One week good, the next week bad. Liverpool just showed the how inconsistent they have been all season as they played out a 2-2 draw which gave Newcastle a precious point in their battle for survival.

The Reds did not start with their strongest side and with the news of Mamadou Sakho being suspended until his ‘fat burner pill’ issue gets resolved, this was a chance for the youngsters to show they could do a similar job to what they did at Bournemouth a week ago.

Liverpool blew Newcastle out in the first half thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana but Newcastle, under former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, fought back thanks to goals from Papiss Cisse and Jack Colback earned them a precious point.

We look back at the game and list out the player ratings for the Reds:

Simon Mignolet – 3/10

Simon Mignolet

From cruise control to panic attack, this has been Simon Mignolet’s career path at Liverpool. He was good in the first half but made a huge blunder dealing with a cross in the second which allowed Newcastle back in the game and gave the away side the impetus to attack.

Connor Randall – 6/10

The youngster was given a chance to play in place of Clyne but couldn’t really do anything worth notice in the game.

Dejan Lovren – 6/10

The Croatian did alright in the game but he was to be blamed for the equaliser conceded by the side.

Kolo Toure – 6/10

Kolo was brought into the game in place of Sakho and did a stellar job for the Reds.

Alberto Moreno – 8/10

Alberto Moreno provided the assist for both Liverpool goals and couldn’t have had a better day for the Reds.

Kevin Stewart – 6/10

A decent enough showing by the youngster, though he might have wanted to do more with the ball.

James Milner – 7/10

A normal Milner-esque performance, nothing too flashy and he showed how versatile he is by playing as the right-back in the latter stages of the game.

Joe Allen – 7/10

The Welsh Xavi had a decent day in the office, again nothing too great from him.

Adam Lallana – 7/10

An important goal for Lallana as he showed he can do the scoring as well; the English attacker would have hoped for more but his influence in the game died down in the second half.

Daniel Sturridge – 7/10

The English striker scored a goal after just one minute but should have done more in the game.

Roberto Firmino – 6/10

Firmino did not have the best game and looks a little off colour as he lost possession a number of times against Newcastle.

Substitutes:

Philippe Coutinho – 6/10

Jurgen Klopp might have wanted to rest Coutinho but had to bring him on in search of the three points. Coutinho couldn’t really do much for the Reds though.

Lucas Leiva – 6/10

The Brazilian didn’t really do much in the game but had a couple of good passes.

Sheyi Ojo- NA

Ojo was brought on late in the game but did not have enough time to make a difference.
