“Literally throwing away points to utter dross”: Some Rangers fans show frustration after 1-1 draw at home + Match report

Rangers 1-1 Hibernian: Gers drop valuable points at home

Rangers were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Hibernian, shutting their chances of moving within a point of league leaders Celtic. Alfredo Morelos scored for Steven Gerrard’s men but it was Darren McGregor’s strike four minutes from time that handed the away side a precious point.

Morelos’ 20th goal of the season put the Gers ahead in the 25th minute and it was a well-taken goal, set up by Daniel Candeias. Hibs goalkeeper Adam Bogdan made a crucial late save to deny Kyle Lafferty.

The home side were dealt with an injury scare in the first half as Connor Goldson required treatment. He was eventually replaced by Nikola Katic after the break. It will be concerning for the Ibrox fans, with the Celtic game around the corner.

Rangers would be kicking themselves to have not finished this game off before. Lassana Coulibaly failed to direct a header on target, while Bogdan made saves in quick succession to deny Glenn Middleton and Ryan Jack.

Those missed chances from the home side eventually proved costly, when Darren McGregor rose up high to power the header past Allan McGregor and break the hearts of the Gers fans. This result leaves Hibernian at eighth position in the table, 11 points clear of ninth-placed Motherwell.

However, for Rangers, they are now three points behind Celtic before both face each other in two days time. Missing chances and conceding a late goal to drop points at home is a worrying outcome for Gerrard’s men, who have aspirations to run their rivals close for the title.
