In a sensational turn of events Lionel Messi has announced that he will be retiring from international football. This announcement came soon after Argentina lost the final of Copa America for the second time to Chile.

The game went into extra time as there were no goals in the regulation time. After the additional minutes the penalty shootouts took place and Messi stepped up to take the first penalty and shot it wide off the mark. Later Arturo Vidal missed his penalty and the scores were level but another miss from Lucas Biglia of Argentina sealed the trohpy for the Chile national team.

After the match, the Argentine captain spoke to TYC sports and said that he is disappointed in himself as he has played in four finals but has not managed to win. As a result has decided to stop this in the future and will not be playing for the national team again. The five time Ballon D’Or winner made this shock claim and from now on we may only see him at the club football scenes.
