Being a Leeds fan I can’t say I’m too fond of Norwich City as they have got four of our ex-players however….
It has been a funny old season for The Canaries as they currently sit in 13th place and only four points off the dreaded drop zone therefore the mood in and around Norfolk must be slightly apprehensive. Last season Paul Lambert lead them to a 12th place finish with 47 points in total, 9 points more than they currently have with four games remaining.
But what has been missing from this Norwich side this season?
What I think Norwich need to possibly challenge for a top 10 or top 8 place instead of fighting for their survival is an out and out goal scorer, a poacher if you’d like. I say this because Norwich are a side who play a big physical target man up front such as Grant Holt, Kei Kamara and Luciano Becchio all being their strikers and all being big target men. They tried to capture this sort of player in the January transfer market by bidding for Danny Graham and Gary Hooper numerous times. However they have recently signed Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky Van Wolfswinkel who is not small in the slightest measuring in at 6 ft 1 inches but his scoring record shows he is a very talented finisher.
The highest point of their season was definitely beating nearly crowned champions Manchester United 1-0 at home in November where Carrow Road was rocking on a cold Saturday evening as they saw a bullet header from Anthony Pilkington see them off. Their lack of goals this season is proven in the statistics as their leading goal scorer is wide magician Robert Snodgrass who has 6 closely followed by Grant Holt on 5 and Wes Hoolahan on 4.
The Canaries’ form guide is one of the worst in the league at the moment as they have only won once in their last ten games prior to thier victory against Reading yesterday. But with 3 massive points secured at home, the nerves which start to jangle over the past few weeks would have finally settled down. and calm the mood around the area helping to push them towards safety.
If Norwich are going to solidify their place in the Barclays Premier League each season they need to tighten up their defence and score more goals as it is becoming harder and harder to hold your place in the league each season.
