Leicester City’s midfield would transform for the best by signing this 26-year-old skipper from the Championship

Leicester City Opinion: Why the Foxes should go for Markus Henriksen?

Hull City skipper Markus Henriksen is still unsure if he will remain at the KCOM Stadium next season.

The Tigers exercised a 12-month contract extension option in the Norway international’s contract in March in order to place them in a better position this summer.

The midfielder’s previous deal was set to expire this summer and Hull City were vulnerable of losing him on a free. The triggering of a 12-month extension has given the club a chance of seeking a decent fee for Henriksen now that he’s likely to leave the club.

According to a report from the Sun, Leicester City were interested in signing Henriksen during the January transfer window but Hull kept hold of him as they still kept hopes of reaching the play-offs.

Given the fact that the Tigers missed out on promotion, Leicester must rekindle their interest and sign Henriksen this summer.

The Foxes’ transfer dealings have started gathering pace, with the club confirming their second signing of the summer in Ayoze Perez on Thursday.

The Spaniard spent five seasons at Newcastle United and his addition has further bolstered Leicester’s attacking ranks. However, Brendan Rodgers must add a few more players to build a squad capable of challenging for a European place next term.

Balance in the midfield is very important and Rodgers should focus on recruiting a central midfielder after signing a defender and an attacking player. Youri Tielemans remains a player of huge interest for the Foxes after he impressed a great deal during his loan spell at the King Power Stadium last season.

Regardless of what happens with Tielemans, a central midfielder to compete with the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Nampalys Mendy and Hamza Choudhury is a must and Markus Henriksen could be a good addition or the Midlands outfit.

Henriksen enjoyed a solid first season as Hull captain last term when starting 39 league games. He has been a consistent performer in the Championship for the last two years and as he turns 27 later this month, the time could be ripe for him to test himself at the highest level.

In the Norway international, Rodgers would get a versatile midfielder, noted for his passing, distribution skills and energy. He has the ability to dictate the tempo of the game and can also chip in with some important goals for his team.

Henriksen works really hard off the ball and that coupled with his technical skills and aerial ability would potentially make him the perfect partner for Ndidi in central midfield.

Verdict

All in all, Henriksen has the potential and talent to become a key part of Rodgers’ revolution at Leicester. Thus, the Foxes should sign the Norwegian from Hull.
