Leicester City replacing Jamie Vardy with this 17-goal hitman would be a foolproof solution to attacking woes

Leicester City Opinion: Why Moussa Marega will be a top fit for the Foxes?

Brendan Rodgers, the new Leicester City manager, has said that he wants to build his team around centre-forward Jamie Vardy.

The former England international, 32, endured a frustrating time under Rodgers’ predecessor Claude Puel as he failed to thrive in the Frenchman’s possession-based system. Now that Puel has gone, Rodgers will look to get Vardy back to form and firing cylinders week in and week out.

Vardy has 12 goals this season and has shown a lot of improvement under Rodgers, who left Celtic to join the Foxes last month. Even though the English striker is doing well, he is 32 and could give two seasons at the highest level at the most.

Rodgers needs to start planning for the future as well and he’ll do a wise job to sign a replacement for the ageing Vardy ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. To put things into perspective, Leicester City should make a summer swoop for FC Porto star Moussa Marega, who according to Portuguese newspaper Correio de Manha is already in the radar of the Foxes.

Moussa Marega, 27, has hit 17 goals and 10 assists in 35 games this season, continuing to dazzle in the Porto attack having scored 23 times last term. The French-born Malian forward is slowly starting to become one of the deadliest poachers in Europe and Leicester shouldn’t think twice in getting his signature this summer.

The 27-year-old is not only a clinical finisher in front of goal but is equally adept at creating opportunities for his teammates. Strong, forceful and difficult to shake off easily, Marega works really hard off the ball and can run tirelessly the entire game.

Blessed with raw pace, power, stamina and an eye for goal, the Mali international has the ability to beat the defenders with instant acceleration. Marega excels with his link-up play that allows his teammates to come more into the game. Furthermore, he can strike the ball with real force and is a handful for the defenders in the box.

Verdict

Everything points towards a conclusion that Marega would be a fantastic addition to the Leicester City squad. Therefore, the Foxes must make the move as early as possible in the summer and try to lure the 27-year-old to arrive at the King Power Stadium ahead of next season.

Marega’s presence would not only be a massive boost to Leicester’s forward line in terms of quality but would also bring the best out Vardy as well as the rest of the attackers.
