Leicester signing this 18-year-old Chelsea prodigy in the summer would prepare them for life after Jamie Vardy – opinion

Leicester City opinion: Should the Foxes sign Daishawn Redan?

According to a printed report by German publication Sport Bild (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are among five other big teams are interested in signing Chelsea’s young centre-forward Daishawn Redan in the summer.

Premier League duo Everton and West Ham along with European big names Borussia Monchengladbach, AC Milan and AS Roma are all keeping tabs on the 18-year old.

A product of the famous Ajax academy, Redan moved to Chelsea two years ago as a 16-year-old and has already featured for both the under-18s and the under-23 squads.

The Dutchman is one of Chelsea’s highly-rated young stars but according to the report, he feels that he has no chance to break into the senior side and wants to move away in the summer.

Leicester City and Brendan Rodgers, who have a decent history of developing young players, should beat the competition to sign the young attacker in the summer.

Redan first caught Chelsea’s eyes during his under-14 days with Ajax. He stole the show by scoring a staggering 44 goals in his first season with the club and repeated the feat in the following season.

His performances earned him a move to Stamford Bridge in 2017 where he started with the under-18 squad. His development was massive that campaign and ended the season being a regular starter for the club’s development team in the Premier League 2.

The 18-year-old is a versatile forward capable of playing anywhere across the front three and also as a number 10. His composure is his biggest asset and his ability to handle the pressure of the whole team on his shoulders makes him a brilliant prospect for the future.

The youngster has also featured for the Dutch youth sides and even led their under-17 squad to European glory.

Redan has scored a stunning 20 goals and 4 assists in 25 games and is touted to be a part of the future of Dutch football which already boasts of the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Mathjis de Ligt.

Redan deserves a run in a senior squad under a manager who would trust him and Brendan Rodgers is the ideal man to do so. Leicester have room for a forward as talented as him, especially with star forward Jamie Vardy ageing.

With Kelechi Iheanacho unable to prove his worth this season, Redan could get a chance next season and would thrive with the likes of James Maddison and Harvey Barnes feeding balls from the middle of the park.

Daishawn Redan is a massive prospect for any side to invest in and with the 18-year-old needing top-flight action, Leicester should snap him up with a promise of first-team football and under Rodgers, he can continue his development and take his game into the next level.
