Leeds would bag a massive bargain by signing this experienced Ecuadorian hitman – here’s why Bielsa must sign him

Leeds United opinion: The Whites should go all out for Felipe Caicedo

According to a report from Football Italia, Leeds United are interested in Lazio striker Felipe Caicedo.

The Ecuador international, 30, joined Lazio in 2017 and has scored 15 goals in 71 appearances for the Serie A club in all competitions. Last season he scored nine goals and provided six assists in 38 games across all competitions, but the striker wants to move on in the summer transfer window.

Felipe Caicedo has only a year left on his Lazio contract and therefore, Leeds United can sign him on the cheap.

The Whites appear to be stepping up their summer plans as the new Championship season looms large. So far, no new signings have arrived, but Marcelo Bielsa is hoping to bring in several new faces in the coming weeks.

Jack Harrison has rejoined Leeds from Manchester City on a temporary deal, having impressed last campaign on loan at Elland Road, while the highly-rated central defender Ben White has joined on a season-long loan spell from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Having signed a winger and a central defender, Bielsa should shift his focus towards bolstering his strike department now.

The Yorkshire outfit needs another goalscorer this summer, given that Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford both spent lengthy periods on the sidelines this past season.

Bielsa has young Tyler Roberts as another option up front, but the Argentinean tactician has used him in the attacking midfield role last season where he did well alongside Mateusz Klich.

With this in mind, Leeds should not hesitate in signing Felipe Caicedo from Lazio this summer. The Ecuadorian has spent time in England with Manchester City, albeit with a series of loan spells at the likes of Sporting CP, Malaga and Levante.

The 30-year-old’s decent record suggests that he could definitely do a good job in the Championship if he did get the chance to join Leeds.

The former Manchester City man is an absolute beast of a centre-forward, whose primary attributes are his strength, power, aerial ability and eye for goal.

He is neither technically gifted nor elegant to watch leading the line, but his work ethic, energy and physical attributes would give the Whites a different dimension to their attack.

Verdict

Leeds desperately need to add greater depth to their squad after narrowly missing out on promotion last season.

The Whites need to ensure that they have enough firepower to get over the line this time around. Thus, bringing the experienced Caicedo to Elland Road would be a step in the right direction.
