Back in October 2018, Leeds United were heavily linked with Portsmouth star, Ronan Curtis. It is believed that the Whites boss Marcelo Bielsa was plotting a January swoop for the 23-year-old.
Ronan Curtis enjoyed a solid campaign with Portsmouth, bagging 11 goals and eight assists in 42 League One games before Kenny Jackett’s side exited the League One playoffs to Sunderland at the semi-final stage. He won an EFL trophy with Pompey in March and was part of Mick McCarthy’s squad for Ireland’s recent qualifiers against Denmark and Gibraltar.
Considering the Republic of Ireland international’s impressive displays for Portsmouth in League One, there’s no better time for Leeds United to revive their interest in the player.
Leeds’ start to the summer transfer window has been very slow, with the club yet to make a single signing. Above all, Jack Clarke is close to making the switch from Elland Road to Tottenham Hotspur. Losing Clarke is a blow and Bielsa should reinvest the money received from his potential sale to beef up his squad.
The Argentinean tactician’s decision to work with a trimmed squad backfired last season, with injuries working against the Yorkshire giants and eventually the club missing out on promotion. That’s why it is important for him to have a bigger squad this time around while challenging for the Championship title.
The Whites struggled to score goals and looked devoid of creativity at times this past season. They clearly need more firepower in their forward department, as Bielsa cannot entirely depend on the likes of Kemar Roofe and Patrick Bamford to consistently fire. Curtis was devastating in the League with Portsmouth and he could be a wonderful addition to Leeds’ attack.

Curtis, who can also play up front or in the no.10 role behind the striker is an exciting player and if he can perform at the Championship level on a consistent basis then he should be a very dangerous option for the Whites.
He is a natural goalscorer and could potentially form an excellent partnership with Hernandez and Roberts, whilst being a lively option to have from the bench.
If Leeds really are serious about promotion then Curtis is exactly the type of exciting player that they should consider bringing to Elland Road this summer, especially as he now could be on the move, following Portsmouth’s failure to achieve promotion from League One.
