The central midfielder also earned a name for his tenacity, as he appeared for more than 40 matches this season.
Whelan seems to have been impressed by Phillips’ display in the 1-1 draw against Aston Villa last week.

I think Kalvin Phillips being introduced again is a massive plus,”
“I think we work better and play better with him in the side, he gives you a little bit more security at the back, his range of passing, picking up pieces when the ball comes into that midfield area, stopping moves.”
The English midfielder has been deployed as a pivot in Bielsa’s traditional 4-1-4-1 formation.
Moreover, Phillips is also receiving interest from the Premier League clubs, with Southampton being the latest.
Leeds fear that Phillips could seek a move if they fail to land a promotion to the Premier League next season.
The Whites have slipped out from their automatic promotion hopes after failing to produce a win in around three weeks.
It has allowed their promotion rivals Sheffield United to secure their spot in England’s top flight alongside Norwich City.
