Leeds United opinion: Should Bielsa sign John Swift?
According to a report from Birmingham Live, Leeds United are looking to bring in Reading’s impressive young midfielder John Swift in the summer. Swift has been an integral part of the Royals squad this season as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.
Leeds, on the other hand,
Leeds have 6 games left in the Championship and all those look winnable on paper apart from the game against Aston Villa on the final day of the season.
Marcelo Bielsa’s next course of action should be to worry about transfers. Leeds will need proper strengthening if they are to have any chance of surviving in the Premier League next season.
However, the links to John Smith makes very little sense for a club like Leeds who already have superior options in the midfield.
John Swift is naturally a number 8 who likes to drive through the middle of the park into the opposition half. The 23-year-old is also capable of playing as a number 10 or as a defensive midfielder but Leeds are very well equipped in those positions already.
Kalvin Phillips has cemented his place as the number 6 and has been outstanding all season. The 23-year-old will only get better under Bielsa and the signing of Swift will not impact his place in the squad by any means.
Swift, despite his impressive season, does not come close to the campaign that Mateusz Klich has had for Leeds this season. The Pole has scored 8 goals and has provided 7 assists so far this campaign and has been an ever-present at the club.
Regardless of who Leeds have in their squad, they should aim for better players than Swift. He has zero experience in the Premier League and would struggle like most of the squad due to lack of experience.
