Leeds United opinion: Should Bielsa sign Florian Aye?

According to a report from the Express, Leeds United are among a whole bunch of English clubs interested in signing 22-year-old French forward Florian Aye in the summer.

Southampton, West Ham, Norwich and Fulham are all in the race for the striker, who currently plays for Ligue 2 side Clermont Foot Auvergne 63.

Leeds have blown the chance of gaining automatic promotion after a poor run of form, which saw them pick up just one point from their last three games.

The draw against Aston Villa at the weekend confirmed Sheffield United’s promotion next season but Leeds have all to play for in the playoffs.

Despite what has happened over the last month, Marcelo Bielsa’s impact at Leeds has been outstanding. The Whites have looked untouchable at times this season and irrespective of what happens in the playoffs, keeping the Argentine at the club has to be the club’s number one priority.

Goals have been a problem for the Whites this season, having scored just 71, the least among the top-five. Kemar Roofe is their top scorer with 14 goals and Pablo Hernandez has chipped in with 12, who are the only two players to get to double figures this season.

A prolific goalscorer up front could well have pushed Leeds into the top-two and a striker has to be a priority in the summer transfer window, irrespective of where they end.

Florian Aye would be a fantastic addition to this Leeds squad and the Whites should beat the rest to sign him in the summer.

Aye has been a star for Clermont this season, having scored 17 goals and assisted 4 more in 33 appearances in Ligue 2 so far this season. The Frenchman has shown real promise this season.

Aye’s movement off the ball has been one of the biggest reasons why he has scored so many goals this season. The 22-year-old has shown the ability to lose his marker without much difficulty, which is a hugely important trait for a forward, especially at his age.

The youngster is a phenomenal finisher and is capable of scoring with both feet. Aye is also brilliant in the air and has exceptional awareness of those around him to pick up the second balls; both inside and outside the box.

Conclusion

Leeds United could really benefit from a player like Florian Aye in their ranks and they should make a move for him in the summer. Aye will fulfil his massive potential under a manager like Marcelo Bielsa and a move to a tougher league will do him a world of good.
