Leeds have to get this 26-year-old Paraguayan trickster if they are serious about life in the Premier League

Leeds United opinion: Should the Whites sign Angel Romero?

Marcelo Bielsa could be the man to finally take Leeds United back into the Premier League. The Whites are still on course for automatic promotion despite the slip and they could even win the Championship ahead of league leaders Norwich City.

However, Bielsa should be prepared for Leeds’ top-flight journey, with a number of their key players ageing.

One area where that problem arises is on the right wing, with Jack Harrison set to return to Manchester City. Pablo Hernandez, who naturally is a right winger, has been pushed centrally, and will be turning 34 next month.

Leeds will need another right winger in the summer and one player who could do a good job for them is Corinthians’ Angel Romero. The Paraguayan’s performances for the Brazilian outfit has been overshadowed by the emergence of Pedrinho but he is still an integral part of the squad.

Romero is naturally a right winger but is capable of playing anywhere across the front four. The 26-year-old joined the Todo Poderoso in 2014 and has since scored over 35 goals for the club in all competitions.

Although the figure doesn’t make your jaws drop, Romero is more to a team than just his numbers.

The 26-year-old is a team player and has a brilliant eye for a pass. Romero, although his main strength is with the ball, is often seen dropping back into the deeper areas to receive the ball.

Romero possesses terrific pace and is also a fantastic dribbler of the ball. His skills and trickery on the ball combined with his acceleration allow him to get away from his marker with considerable ease.

The Paraguayan tends to drift a lot centrally and despite starting out as a winger, works more as a number 10 for his team.

Romero, when out wide on the right, makes use of his terrific right foot to whip crosses into the box. While he is on the left, Romero, like any other attacking left-winger, cuts inside and unleashes a strike on goal.

Romero is incredibly composed on the ball and his quick feet allows him to outfox his markers to make some space for himself. His composure is most evident when through on goal and has the ability to score with either foot.

Conclusion

If Leeds do make it to the Premier League after what feels like an eternity, Marcelo Bielsa will need to work his magic both on the pitch and in his transfer dealings.

A right winger who is also capable of playing centrally, is an absolute necessity for Leeds and Angel Romero fits the bill perfectly.

Romero’s technical ability will help Leeds in their attacks and his flair in possession will surely create a buzz of excitement around Elland Road.
