Leeds can continue succeeding only if they retain Bielsa and here is why they should reject interest from Roma

Leeds United Opinion: Why Leeds United should keep a hold of Marcelo Bielsa

Football Italia has reported that AS Roma are looking towards Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa to permanently replace Eusebio Di Francesco next summer.

The Stadio Olimpico side sacked Di Francesco a little over a month ago and appointed Claudio Ranieri as the caretaker boss till the end of the season.

However, they are still looking for a new manager and believe that Marcelo Bielsa is their man, with the 62-year-old doing well with Leeds United. The Peacocks have flourished under Bielsa’s tutelage in the Championship this season and could even make an automatic promotion spot.

They’ve held not one but 20 leads between Matchday 2 and Matchday 32, before Norwich City took over.

A loss to Norwich City at the start of February saw Leeds drop out of the pole position, with Daniel Farke’s men taking over. However, for Bielsa and his men, they’ve struggled to return to the top, with losses to Sheffield United and Queens Park Rangers. They sit in third place at the moment, and are five points off the top.

But even then, the Argentine has won plaudits for his expansive and attacking style of play this season, which has paid dividends on more than one occasion. The kind of football that Leeds United have been playing this season has been beautiful.

It has been Bielsa’s speciality, witnessed during his spells with Argentina, Marseille and even Lazio among others. That’s something that Leeds United have desperately missed and more importantly, Bielsa is someone who can take them into the Premier League.

They’ve tried and failed multiple times over the last half a dozen years, with 14 managers at the helm before the Argentine arrived. The 62-year-old’s style of play and tactics will help the Peacocks. With time, Leeds will find themselves in England’s top-tier.

It may not be at the end of this season or even the next, but if there is one manager who can help them return to the Premier League, it is Bielsa.

They do not have the biggest budget in the world and yet somehow, they’ve managed to attract their fair share of brilliant players, who have helped them flourish this season.

That has been down to Bielsa’s coaching and tactics, which further emphasises why they need to keep him.

Conclusion

Marcelo Bielsa might be eccentric, unorthodox and obviously has his own methods of scouting out the other teams in the league, but he is Leeds United’s one chance.

Their one chance of finding a way back into the Premier League. But more importantly, their one chance of getting a chance to establish their name in one of Europe’s biggest football leagues.
